Job Description

Our recently completed Strathmore Municipal Building will bring all Administrative functions under one roof, providing new opportunities for collaboration across the organization.Position Summary: Reporting to the Public Works Supervisor, the Public Works Operator is a key contributor within the Operations Department. This position requires both a strategic and hands-on role in providing an array of services around the Strathmore community.Key Responsibilities:Day to day duties as assigned by the Public Works Supervisor and or Lead handOperate a variety of light and/or heavy equipmentConduct ditch repairs, contouring grades and finishing work with a John Deere excavatorMaintain sidewalks, curbs, gutters, pedestrian walkways and asphalt pavement.Maintain roads via sweeping, pothole repairs, crack sealing and line painting.Repair and replace street signs.Assist in the repair of Town Infrastructure as required.Assist other departments with operating duties as required.Other duties as required within the department.Required Education & Experience:Must have a minimum of Grade 12 education.Must have excavator experienceMust have experience operating hydro-vac unitMust have experience using a variety of vehicles and light/heavy equipment, including hand and power tools,Experience operating graders, wheel loaders and/or other equipment will be considered an asset.Valid Alberta Class 3 Operators License with Q endorsement will be considered an asset.Ability to obtain and maintain a valid First Aid/CPR certificate.Must provide a Criminal Record check and a clean Driver’s Abstract.Competencies and Behaviours:Must be willing to take direction from others and follow through with designated tasks.Willingness to follow standards and guidelines.Strong interpersonal skills, ability to avoid conflict.A team player who demonstrates a high degree of personal drive and motivation towards team support.Ability to make independent decisions.Clear thinking, problem solving abilities.Working Conditions:This position will require sitting, lifting up to 50 lbs, standing for long periods, work outdoors in extreme weather conditions.Driving is a requirement of this position.This position is classified as Safety Sensitive and an Essential Service.Application:This position will remain open until a suitable candidate is found.
