Job Description

Doormaster is a family run door and gate company. We have physical locations in Sechelt, BC, and Burnaby BC.We are looking for an apprentice to train with our Lead Technician on the Sunshine Coast. This position would cover both residential and commercial door and gate systems.As a door and access systems technician, you will be responsible for the sales and service of residential and commercial overhead doors, gates, electric operators and access controls. Technicians are mobile, in their own company vehicle, and are dispatched to different service calls or installations on a daily basis. Our service area covers the entire Sunshine Coast, from Langdale/Port Mellon, up to Egmont and through to Powell River.To be successful in this role, you will need to have practical mechanical and electrical problem solving skills. Efficiency and organization are a key qualifier. Being patient, respectful and helpful with our clients is a must, as you are representing our company.Experience is not necessary; we are prepared to train the right candidate(s) from the ground up.   • Assemble mechanical components or machine parts.
  • Adjust equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Document parts needed for follow up repair accurately and submit to office.
  • Repair or replace worn or broken door parts using hand tools.
  • Disassemble equipment for maintenance or repair.
  • Remove parts or components from equipment.
  • Install hardware or other interior fixtures.
  • Fabricate parts or components.
  • Run wiring to connect equipment.
  • Lubricate equipment to allow proper functioning.
  • Test mechanical equipment to ensure its functioning properly.
  • Document operational activities
  • Collect payments for good or services.
Basic Position Requirements: Abilities:
  • Excellent mechanical and technical skills
  • Physically able to move items weighing 75 lbs or higher, able to work off ladders and lift equipment with ease.
  • Able to bend, climb, kneel, and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Possess interpersonal skills to relate to customers and solve issues.
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate with others under any type of condition.
  • Ability to multitask with different, and sometimes conflicting events happening at the same time.
  • Ability to relay information in a fast-paced environment.
  • Reliable and Self Motivated
Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of smart phone, computers and tablet use
  • Knowledge in google search, and Navigation systems is a plus.
  • Knowledge of hand tools, mechanical tools, and garage door experience is a plus, but not required.
  • Speak, read, write English fluently.
Training Required:
  • Training is ongoing within our company and you are paid for all training.
Compensation
  • Level 1 apprentice training rate is $23/hour (this is typically your first 3 months)
  • Junior residential technician is $25
  • Level 2 residential technician $28-30 per hour
  • Commercial/Industrial work ranges from $30-$50 per hour depending on experience.
  • You are an employee of the company, not a contractor
Working Conditions:
  • Must be able to work after hours, over weekends, and on holidays with short notice.
  • The job environment is fast paced and results oriented.
  • Be able to drive a company vehicle and possess a valid driver license.
  • Must pass Drug test, Background check and Motor Vehicle check.
  • Travel required – we have a branch in Burnaby BC, and travel is sometimes required. We provide you with accommodations, transportation and meals.
  • Company truck, tools, phone, gas card and ferry card for travel are provided, including training time.
