Job Description

Job DescriptionThe Control and Instrument Technician provides their control and instrument technical expertise and supports the Swan Hills Treatment Centre (SHTC) with improving Plant efficiencies using process/design industry best practices. Participates in overseeing the day-to-day operations, collaborates with key stakeholders to identify and design control and instrument improvements, and develops thermal strategies involving the incineration plant and its auxiliary systems. The incumbent participates in reviewing the day-to-day operation, process/design improvement, and development on nonthermal strategies involving the Physical Treatment Plant, Stabilization Plant and Inventory Management Systems.This position operates within a COR, ISO 17025 certified, and OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001 conforming plant environment and is expected to comply with all regulatory requirements. The facility operates on a 24/7 basis.Key Responsibilities:The duties of the Control and Instrument Technician are as follows, but not limited to:

  1. Understands and promotes the Company’s, the Division’s, the Plant’s, and the Department’s mission statement, values, and strategic goals.
  2. Proactively promotes through example a safe work ethic, attitude, and workplace. Complies with all health and safety policies, standards, and procedures to achieve a safe work environment and safety for all staff and visitors as well as the Company’s, Client’s and Regulatory Agencies safe work objectives and requirements.
  3. Maintains effective working relationships and communications with peers, management, and other Company departments and staff. Effectively resolves any conflicts in a timely and respectful manner to achieve positive and healthy working relationships and workplace environment.
  4. Promotes a quality-first work ethic and attitude to provide a service is of the highest standard achievable.
  5. Maintains confidentiality to comply with all regulatory requirements and Company Privacy and Confidentiality policies and procedures.
  6. Safely operates company owned, leased, or rented vehicles and/or mobile equipment. Incumbent is required to perform Safety Sensitive duties and responsibilities.
  7. Reviews alarm printouts and identify discrepancies, reporting these to Tech. Services manager and opertions.
  8. Designing and developing new control systems
  9. Testing, maintaining and modifying existing systems
  10. Analysing data and presenting findings in written reports
  11. Managing operations of existing system
  12. Working collaboratively with other engineers, operation engineers, purchasers and other internal staff
  13. Liaising with clients, suppliers, contractors and relevant authorities
  14. Project management within cost and time constrained environments
  15. Understanding and ensuring compliance with relevant health and safety regulations and quality standards
  16. Providing advice and consultancy support to engineering manager and operations.
  17. Preparing equipment specification and data sheet and put requisition to purchase equipment’s.
  18. Writing computer software and test procedures
  19. Developing new business proposals.
  20. Initiates process and instrument changes throughout the plant.
  21. Acts as a resource to the plant for co-ordination of improvement opportunities and support during implementation of control and instrument process improvements.
  22. Liaises between shifts to confirm that control and instrument related knowledge is shared and understood in the field.
  23. Conducts focused studies of control and instrument operations to improve performance
  24. Recommends facility improvements in instruments in response to wastes that are difficult to handle.
  25. Evaluates and recommend controlamp; instruments for wastes as potential candidates for incineration based on process design
  26. Prepares and/or reviews new Standard Operating Procedures for control and instruments.
  27. Participates in approving, sponsoring, and initiating Management of Change (MOC).
  28. Provides technical expertise where required to define necessary control, instrument and process change, including agreement between shifts prior to MOC submission.
  29. Actively works to optimize the control, instrument and process to improve the plant efficiency.
  30. Interfaces with operations, sales and Marketing to develop new control and instrument strategy if require
  31. Participates in Process Hazard Assessment (PHA), REM and HAZOP associated with plant control, instrument operations.
  32. Assists to support maintenance during major outages.
  33. Assists in planning engineering project implementation to provide minimal disruption to operations during regular production periods.
  34. Assists with and oversees capital projects as assigned.
  35. Provides technical support to Engineering as required in design and charter preparation.
  36. Supports other initiatives of the Plant to promote a healthy and positive work environment and enhance employee morale and engagement.
