Tofino is one of the most popular travel destinations in Western Canada and was just named one of the top 50 places to visit in the world by Time Magazine.TRM features 63 guest rooms, a 56-slip marina, a waterfront restaurant, an elite fitness centre and an adventure centre offering adventurous outdoor activities year-round, including whale and bear watching, hot spring tours, freediving, paddle boarding, fishing, and a remote floating sauna. Surrounded by world-renowned natural beauty in UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. TRM offers circular experiences, providing a rare mix of adventure and relaxation anchored by a forage to table experience at 1909 Kitchen + Bar, providing guests to Tofino with both thrilling and reflective moments through its unique land/water interface as it is the only resort in Tofino with this compelling access.The President/GM will be responsible in continuing to drive TRM into a year-round destination ensuring high standards of operational excellence and guest services, while expanding and executing on broader sales and marketing activities. The President/GM will be the primary point of contact while executing ownerships 30 key, health and wellness, capital project expansion while promoting talent attraction and retention as well as greater collaboration across the organization.The ideal candidate will be a hands-on leader with broad leadership and operational experience from a similar hospitality operation. You need an affinity for driving circular experiences that create a deeper connection to people and place driven by exceptional outdoor and hospitality experiences. Experience in strategic planning while possessing strong financial and business acumen is necessary and the ability to work with a team of committed owners who are keen to invest strategically in the business.Based in Tofino, BC, this is an exciting opportunity for a career professional who is looking for a new challenge to build and transform a unique hospitality operation into one of North America’s leading adventure resorts in a globally recognized location.Key Opportunities & ChallengesTRM offers a unique value proposition and tremendous growth potential. Spectacular scenery, mild year-round climate and committed and well capitalized owners and diverse assets. TRM is the only fully integrated resort which controls land and water access to Clayoquot Sound Biosphere Reserve, one of only 18 UNESCO Biosphere Reserves located next to Pacific Rim Park.This is an excellent opportunity for a hospitality leader to help execute the vision for TRM. The President/General Manager will continue to maximize the rebranding of the property after significant capital improvements to establish TRM as one of the leading adventure resorts in the Pacific Northwest.Aside from traditional amenities of a full-service hotel, the President/GM must also be able to manage a diversified business with different revenue streams, including:

  • 1909 Kitchen + Bar A West Coast-inspired restaurant by land and sea, seats 160+ and supports an ingredient driven menu which anchors our circular experiences with forage to table offerings via our “Cook Your Catch” option while offering spectacular waterfront views. Growth potential lies in expanding brand proposition to provide greater versatility for corporate and group events.
  • Marine Adventure Centre – The basecamp for all things adventure (Whales, Bears, Hot Springs, Fishing, Remote Floating Sauna, Free Diving, Paddle Boarding) in the surrounding Clayoquot Sound Biosphere Reserve, including a 56-slip private marina, fuel services, retail and moorage up to 130 feet with daily scheduled flight service from Vancouver & Victoria Harbour to TRM on Cessna Caravan in 50 minutes via Harbour Air.
  • Tuff Fit Gym – A world-class gym for fitness enthusiasts accessible to both guests and the public. Offering state-of-the-art Life Fitness and Hammer Strength equipment as well as the panoramic ocean views.
  • Future Development – TRM owns adjacent property that would enable further development & expansion. This represents a significant opportunity for facility upgrades and new service offerings, including the development of additional guest rooms and a spa, with the goal of driving increased year-round traffic.
Operational ExcellenceContinually enhancing the operational efficiencies will be the primary focus for the President/GM developing a highly efficient organization. but the role will also allow for participation in the strategic development of the adjacent property. Guest services is also another key priority area driving a high standard of guest services and continue to enhance existing policies, systems and processes that befit a world-class hospitality operation. With TRM’s positioning as an adventure resort, the President and GM will also develop sound operational policy and emergency response planning to mitigate risks on the property, put in place appropriate risk management practices and provide accurate and timely reporting to the owners.Environment & CommunityTRM is committed to driving deeper conversations about the Indigenous community and environment as an active and responsible member of the community, a core value of TRM. Since 2017, TRM has created the Fish for the Future Fund with a mandate of protecting wild salmon, manged by the Clayoquot Biosphere Trust and since inception over $255,000 raised, with 100% reinvested locally. TRM is also a Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation Tribal Park Ally recognizing the unceded territory and supports the collective vision for a culturally and ecologically rich coastline forever. The President/GM is expected to be a visible member of the community with a genuine passion and interest in stewardship and preserving the natural surroundings in which TRM operates.LeadershipThe President/GM will inherit an energetic, passionate team that is looking for an inspirational coach and mentor. The President/GM will need to be an authentic leader, capable of communicating and engaging with all levels of the operation. The President/GM will mentor and lead a young management team and develop a reporting structure that would enable managers to drive planning within their own departments to further enhance operational efficiency and guest experience.Governance & ManagementReporting to the General Partners through the Managing Partner, the President/General Manager is responsible for the general management and control over the business activities of TRM in accordance with strategies, plans and policies approved by the Managing Partner. The President/GM will lead and manage TRM through the development and implementation of growth strategies and operational procedures, the management of its human and financial resources, and the organization of efficient and effective operations to deliver first-in-class guest experience.Human ResourcesEnsures an effective organizational structure that reflects organizational development, guest experience and safety imperatives in collaboration with the Human Resources & Housing Manager. Develops staff training programs and general HR procedures to ensure that all employees are aligned in delivering the desired guest experience and to establish TRM as an employer of choice.Guest ExperienceProvides strategic and tactical direction for the delivery of the desired guest experience across all TRM service offerings. Defines and builds commitment to a philosophy of guest experience that permeates all aspects of TRM operations. Maintains relationships with guests, clients and partners. Monitors their satisfaction & identifies potential and actual problem areas.Business & Financial ManagementOversees budgeting and forecasting for the overall operations in collaboration with the Director of Finance, maintains budget accuracy to ensure that financial and operating objectives are adhered to rigorously and that senior management receives the information and analysis required to inform decision making and improve performance.Sales & MarketingDevelops and presents an annual sales and marketing plan that establishes sales and profitability targets in collaboration with the Marketing Manager. Supports the work of the marketing team in the implementation of communications strategies that includes branding initiatives, corporate communications, media relations, news editorial and other activities & holds accountability for each initiative to drives the growth of the business through new customer and market development.TechnologyLeads the organization in the selection, qualification, purchase and implementation of enterprise-level software, hardware upgrades, ongoing training and support and adherence by management team to the SOP’s around this system for streamlined and efficient communication and securing company intellectual property.Food & BeverageProvides leadership to the overall food and beverage function in collaboration with the Food & Beverage Manager. Monitors and reviews related revenues, cost centres, guest feedback and marketing and operational plans to ensure that they are sound from a business perspective and aligned with the guest experience guidelines.Marine Adventure OperationsProvides overall direction and leadership to ensure that guest experience is aligned with the standards and that revenue is maximized. Ensures that physical facility and systems of TRM are aligned with and supports the desired guest experience. Ensures that risk mitigation strategies are in place and followed, including emergency planning and response measures, controlling partnership risk.CommunicationEnsures that the Managing Partner is fully informed on all aspects of the budget, staffing, material capital expenditures, maintenance, contract relationships and any unexpected deviations. Solicits input from the Managing Partner and shareholders, and leverages on Managing Partners’ networks within the government, the community, and the adventure tourism industry to promote and protect the reputation of TRM.Work History
  • 5 years of combined experience in an AGM or GM role at a resort
  • Degree in Business Management or master’s in business administration
  • Experience in destination tourism
  • Experience managing a multi brand resort.
