Job Description

Job DescriptionWe are looking for an Environmental Health and Safety Specialist to join the Toronto, Canada site within Avery Dennison. In this role, you will participate on our leadership team and report to the Regional EHS Manager and dotted line to the site leader.If you are a motivated individual that enjoys driving safety culture and engaging employees at all levels, and on all shifts to improve safety performance and drive a zero tolerance culture - this job is for you!

  • In this role, you will participate on our leadership team and report to the Regional EHS Manager.
  • Organizing and controlling the EHS functions of the Toronto, Canada site to ensure that an effective accident prevention and regulatory compliance program is maintained
  • Responsible for overall implementation of EHS with respect to federal, state and local requirements including company specific policies and programs
  • Integration of Company and facility level EHS management systems to maintain compliance, environmental protection and safe operating conditions
  • Tracking and regularly reporting the status of regulatory compliance and improvement initiatives
  • Maintaining accident injury log and all other governmental and corporate database records
  • Investigate all releases, injuries and near-misses to identify root cause and implement corrective actions
  • Act as the main point of contact regarding safety management to ensure overall compliance and coordination of resources related to safety
  • Coordinating the Job Safety Analysis program and PPE compliance program and maintaining the SDS system
  • Driving continuous improvement and delivering strong results from behavioral based processes
  • Ensure compliance with environmental permits and regulations including air program, hazardous waste, general stormwater programs and annual reporting
  • Identifying and evaluating hazardous conditions and practices and developing hazard control practices and programs
  • Reviewing plant incident statistics and making recommendations for correction of problem areas
  • Conducting periodic risk assessments of plant machinery, equipment, and working conditions to ensure conformance to appropriate safety and sanitary standards and regulations
  • Provide advice, assist, and audit the front line leadership to ensure that effective EHS is implemented and working
  • Maintain working relationships with Regulatory Agencies and chair or co- chair and lead the Safety Committee
  • Maintaining the facility #39;s compliance records for permits
  • Reviewing Federal, State and local regulation changes that impact permits and permit compliance
  • Interfacing with regulatory agencies, as needed
  • Supporting and assisting in the tracking of site/corporate sustainability objectives
  • Help champion health and wellness initiatives
  • Assist with maintaining the Site Preparedness and Emergency Plansamp; Procedures
  • Actively participate in the Corporate EHS Network
  • Spend significant time engaging with operations personnel to drive a strong, health safety culture
  • Serve as a member of the site leadership team and network with peers to drive success and assist the site in attaining its goals
