Job Description

Turtleford and District Co-op invites applications for a positive and enthusiastic Assistant Food Manager on a full-time basis for a one-year term at our Food Store in Turtleford, Sask. reporting to the Food Manager.What you’ll do:

  • You will lead our Grocery Department primarily
  • You will assist in leading the fresh departments to ensure that we maintain high-quality standards
  • Assist the Food Manager with an overall store of approximately 35 employees – with sales volume of 6.4 million
  • Assist in leading the Food Store in making a difference by delivering a world class customer experience and building a real, personal and genuine relationship with our member-owners and customers
  • Provide leadership to ensure that an engaged and supportive team environment exists to ensure the Food Store is a great place to work and a great place to shop while ensuring a highly productive atmosphere exists
  • Responsible for assisting with communication, planning, organizing, implementation and execution within the Grocery Department primarily, and within the overall food store.
  • Responsible for providing leadership and direction to the Grocery team in all areas of People, Financial, Market Growth, Sustainability, and Operational Excellence
  • Lead the annual planning, goal-setting, budgeting & corporate talent management processes for the Grocery Department
  • Ensure compliance to company policies and procedures, professional standards and applicable laws and regulations
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal & external customers and team members; while ensuring that the administrative requirements of the role are maintained on an ongoing basis
  • Ensure employee development and succession planning is a high priority
  • Ensure Health & Safety guidelines, programs and procedures are adhered to
  • Able to work a variety of shifts – including days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays on a rotational basis
  • Model the way of demonstrating day-to-day behaviours and actions that align with and strengthen the Co-operatives vision, mission, values, brand and focus on safety
  • Additional tasks as assigned by the Food Manager
Why it matters:We need you to lead outstanding Co-op experiences.Who you are:
  • You have 2-5 years of experience in a retail environment with 1-2 years of Management experience in a fast-paced retail environment; experience within the Co-op Retailing System (CRS) would be an asset
  • You have experience supervising a team of department team leaders and an overall large employee team
  • You demonstrate effective team leadership skills and have the ability to work well within a multigenerational, highly motivated team
  • You have working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and the ability to manage files
  • You’re honest and trustworthy, are results-oriented and strive to be the best in what you do
  • You believe in building relationships and collaborating to deliver solutions that matter most, and you recognize the value that different perspectives bring to meet shared objectives
