Job Description

Job Summary:The Senior Specifications Writer will play a critical role in developing and managing architectural specifications for healthcare projects. This position also involves managing the company #39;s master specification base and maintaining a current library of product suppliers and information for architectural products.The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of architectural materials and products, experience in writing comprehensive specifications, and a strong understanding of healthcare design requirements.Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and oversee the development of architectural specifications for healthcare projects, ensuring they are accurate, comprehensive, and in compliance with building codes and regulations.
  • Collaborate with project teams, including architects, designers, and engineers, to determine project requirements and specifications.
  • Review and update the company #39;s master specification base, ensuring it reflects the latest industry standards and best practices.
  • Research and evaluate architectural materials and products, building systems, and construction methods to recommend suitable options for projects.
  • Maintain a current library of product suppliers and information for architectural products, staying informed about new products and technologies in the industry.
  • Coordinate with manufacturers and suppliers to obtain technical data, product samples, and other necessary information for specification development.
  • Participate in project meetings to provide specifications-related input and respond to queries from project teams.
  • Collaborate with the Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) team to ensure specifications align with the firm #39;s quality standards.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior specifications writers and other team members.
  • Keep abreast of changes in building codes, regulations, and industry standards related to architectural specifications.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor #39;s or Master #39;s degree in Architecture, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience as an architectural specifications writer, with a focus on healthcare projects in Canada.
  • Extensive knowledge of architectural materials, products, and construction methods.
  • Proven track record of writing comprehensive and accurate architectural specifications.
  • Familiarity with building codes, regulations, and standards applicable to healthcare design in Canada.
  • Proficiency in specification writing software and tools.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail and precision in specification development.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Leadership qualities and the ability to manage and mentor junior team members.
  • Membership or affiliation with relevant professional associations in Canada is a plus.
