Are you ready to join usMeet the team The Renewables in Remote Communities (RiRC) policy team focuses on supporting Indigenous-led renewable energy projects and reducing diesel consumption in remote communities across Canada, and advocates for effective climate and energy policies and for regulatory improvements to prioritize these goals.The opportunityWe’re looking for a Senior Analyst to join our Renewables in Remote Communities team. This role can be based out of any of our Pembina offices or from a remote community within Canada, including the Northern Territories.We’ll lean on you to lead cross-functional projects to ensure the Pembina Institute maximizes its impact in supporting diesel reduction and the broad advancement of Indigenous-led renewable energy projects.Your key responsibilities Your primary focus will be to provide research, strategic advice, qualitative and quantitative analysis, writing, government relations and media support for the RiRC team.You will also:

  • Lead multiple, concurrent projects at their inception
  • Synthesize research to easily digestible technical reports, briefing notes, presentations, and blog posts -quantifying the impacts and outcomes of government policy
  • Lead research and advocacy to advance policy efforts
  • Critically review the analysis of peers and collaborate with various internal teams, supporting policy, technical research, and fundraising initiatives, as directed.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key external parties, including but not limited to Indigenous leaders, government, private and crown utilities, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and media.
  • Collaborate with leadership to support government advocacy and stakeholder activities, owing and developing relationships with peers across multiple departments and levels of government
  • Represent the Pembina Institute at conferences and workshops, for specified areas of expertise.
  • Provide input to strategic planning and deliver the tactics to support the effective design and execution of RiRC programs.
What we’re looking forYou have excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills, and demonstrated success communicating to policy makers and executives. You have a high level of high attention to detail with a strong ability to analyze various streams of quantitative and qualitative data. You are able to understand microgrids and climate-related technologies. Your project management skills and proficiency with data management software tools are strong, as is your commitment to sustainability and social change.You also have:
  • Minimum of three years of related work experience in a professional environment, such as industry, government of the not-for-profit sector. A combination of work experience and education may be considered.
  • Minimum of an undergraduate degree in engineering, sciences, business, economics, law, public policy, or a related field; a higher degree is considered a bonus.
  • Understanding and awareness of culture and history, social and economic barriers, and governance as it relates to Indigenous Peoples in Canada.
  • Expertise (policy, technical, economic, societal) with key topic areas: renewable energy, energy/climate policy, community development, northern and remote jurisdictions, diesel reliance.
  • Prior experience with First Nation, Métis and/or Inuit communities and Northern Territories is considered an asset.
  • Prior experience with supporting Indigenous leadership, capacity building, and/or community-based programming is considered an asset.
  • Prior experience with external media and communications is considered an asset.
  • Prior experience in corporate sustainability, climate tech or energy development is considered an asset.
Compensation and benefits The hiring range for the position is $72,100 to $84,400 annually based on a 37.5-hour work week, with a range maximum of $92,700. Within this range, individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, related experience, education and/or training, and internal equity.We know that in order to meet these ambitious goals, our people are the core.
