Job Description

The Hotel Arts Group is currently looking for a Staff Cook (Cook 2) at Hotel Arts. We are looking for someone who will consistently provide quality and production for 125 staff members daily in an organized and effective manner. This cook will primarily be working alongside the Sous Chef to provide excellent culinary service to our employees in our staff cafeteria. They will also be responsible for the upkeep and cleanliness of the cafeteria.The successful applicant will possess the following traits:

  • High level of interest in food and have a keen interest in the culinary arts
  • Good eye for detail in plating and presenting food
  • Demonstrate a good understanding of large batch western cooking, global dietary cultures, and trends
  • Able to take given product and replicate recipes
  • Work quickly and demonstrate an ability to multitask
  • Able to think independently in creating 2 healthy, nutritious, and filling cafeteria style staff meals that appear to a wide variety of people
  • Ability to work alongside team members in managing daily orders and purchasing
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Displays attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team effectively in a busy kitchen
  • Has flexibility towards their environment
  • Will ensure all menu items are prepared efficiently to standard and to customer requirements
  • Will ensure all mis en place is completed in a timely and efficient manner
  • Will ensure the cleanliness and proper storage of all food product
  • Will ensure all appropriate provincial health regulations and food handling techniques
  • Is mindful of maintain a clean and organized work area
  • Is aware of food cost, portion, and waste controls
  • Will work with the stewarding team to ensure that the cafeteria is clean, tidy and orderly at all times
Job Requirements:
  • 2 years’ experience in a similar position
  • A Journeyman or working toward Red Seal certification
  • Large Volume Cookery Experience
  • Availability for lunch and dinner service
  • Flexible weekly schedule
  • Physically able to stand and move during the length of shift; able to bend and kneel through the shift; able to lift up to 25 pounds or more
