Major topics include respiration and photosynthesis; regulation of the cell cycle; features of multicellularity; DNA structure, function, and repair; gene expression and regulation; mitosis and meiosis; patterns of inheritance; microbial genetics.Learning Outcomes:

• Describe the molecular basis of the structure and function of eukaryotic cells

• Discuss the structure and function of cell membranes and relate them to cellular processes

• Recognize and describe complex eukaryotic gene regulation at the transcriptional, post- transcriptional, translational and post-translational levels

• Explain macromolecular interactions involved in specific gene regulatory mechanisms

• Apply the knowledge in cell and molecular biology to understand the genetic basis of human diseases
