Job Description

Provides technical, business and strategic analysis in the development and implementation of energy conservation strategies for Regional facilities; investigates, evaluates, recommends, and assists with the implementation of cost effective energy efficiency solutions, programs, and supply options; reviews and recommends renewable energy supply and energy efficiency technologies and performs detailed analysis of the financial benefits and related technical, economic, and operational risks; monitors and reports actual energy savings achieved through energy initiatives; and analyses historical consumption data and future trends and provides recommendations for utility budgets. Work is subject to evening or weekend hours to attend public open houses and formal public meetings.Current Assignment: This position will perform duties as described, primarily in operations and maintenance to support the Region’s energy management plan and climate action commitments.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Advanced theoretical and practical knowledge of energy conservation, energy efficiency technologies, building mechanical and electrical systems, business and strategic planning, as well as general knowledge of building design, construction principles, and accounting; acquired through a University Degree in Engineering, Science, Business, Facilities Management, or equivalent, plus 3 years directly related experience.
  • Knowledge of commercial, institutional, and residential electricity and natural gas utilities, rates, and billing methodologies and experience in the implementation of cost effective energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies.
  • Analytical, research, and problem solving skills in order to develop and audit spreadsheets and utility rate structures to identify trends, establish benchmarks and make recommendations for energy and emissions reductions; manage several projects concurrently, coordinating project requirements, identifying potential difficulties and their causes, generating workable solutions, and making rational judgments; and to work independently, meet deadlines, and achieve results.
  • Human relations, communication, presentation, and public speaking skills in order to direct and guide consultants and staff, conduct presentations to various groups; to participate as an effective team member.
  • Proficiency in the operation of a computer, using such software as Word, Excel, Lotus Notes, and a document management system (DOCS), as well as Energy and Environmental Management System, Degree Data, and ION Enterprise.
  • Ability to travel to various locations within the Region.
  • Ability to support and project values compatible with the organization.
  • Ability to read technical reports, trade journals, invoices, charts, and general correspondence.
  • Ability to prepare and present business plans, including detailed data on costs, savings and financing options; develop, write and present comprehensive programs and plans, which may include technical evaluations or descriptions of theoretical models dealing with electricity deregulation; write project correspondence, reports, specifications, contracts, agreements, and project definition reports.
  • Ability to conduct presentations to and respond to inquiries from Council and Committee, private industry representatives, media, and the public, including at open houses and formal meetings.
