Job Description

Monitors contracted waste services for compliance with agreement terms/conditions. Responds to/resolves waste/recycling related customer service inquiries/complaints for the Division. Provides support for the promotion and education of divisional programs. Enforces Regional waste collection and disposal by-laws, in collaboration with Municipal Law Enforcement Officers.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Basic knowledge of environmental issues, specifically waste management/reduction programs and techniques, and municipal law enforcement acquired through a 2-year degree/diploma in an Environmental related field or a 2-year college diploma in Law & Security, plus 2 years of related experience.
  • Knowledge of the principles and procedures of by-law enforcement.
  • Organizational, time management, and problem solving skills to schedule inspections/appointments, coordinate activities while in the field, and summarize collected data.
  • Human relations, communication, and presentation skills to explain/clarify program information and guidelines and resolve customer complaints; assist with education and promotional events/presentations; and participate as an effective team member.
  • Computer skills with ability to use software such as Microsoft Office, databases, and a document management system.
  • Ability to read program materials, related literature, guidelines, memos, and maps. Ability to write memos, letters, record actions, and document evidence.
  • A valid "Class G" drivers license (or G2 with 3 years of driving experience) and acceptable driving record are required to operate a Regional vehicle and travel to various work locations on a daily basis.
  • Is required to work out of multiple locations (e.g., Waterloo, Cambridge).
  • Ability to alter working hours to early morning/evening as required (patrols/visits/inspections). May be requested to work occasional weekends.
  • Ability to support and demonstrate the Region’s values.
