Job Description

Locates, ships, tracks, receives, and returns material among Region of Waterloo Library (RWL) branches, and other locations and library systems. Processes new library materials added to the collection.Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Assists to circulate RWL materials to/from branches. Uses circulation system to locate, ship, and receive materials, including program resource material requests and special collections materials, to/from RWL branches, Library Headquarters staff, and Region staff.
  • Processes interlibrary loan materials delivered via Canada Post. Searches for interlibrary loan requests in RWL catalogue. Requests and monitors renewals for interlibrary loans.
  • Assists Library Cataloguer to process library materials added/removed from the collection (e.g., affixes labels and barcodes).
  • Provides clerical support to staff and management (e.g., photocopying, filing).
  • Responds to inquiries from branch staff regarding circulated materials.
  • Attends meetings/workshops.
  • Backs up the some of the duties of other library staff including Program Assistant (e.g., answering phones), and Library Assistants at branches (e.g., circulating materials, customer service).
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
  • Knowledge of current public library circulation practices and procedures, online searching, alphabetizing/organizing material/data, and customer service, acquired through a Grade 12 education plus 1 year of related public library experience.
  • Knowledge of and ability to comply with corporate policies and procedures.
  • Time management and organizational skills to plan work to meet delivery schedules.
  • Communication skills to exchange information with library staff; respond to inquiries from library staff and the public; and participate as an effective team member.
  • Ability to complete forms and write notes, e-mails, and memos. Ability to read procedures, loan requests, reference material, and other resources.
  • Computer skills with ability to use software such as a computerized catalogue system, Microsoft Office, databases, and the Internet.
  • Ability to alter hours when providing back-up duties at branches; is requested to work weekends for same.
  • Ability to travel within Waterloo Region.
  • Ability to support and demonstrate the Region’s values.
