Job Description

At CoreAVI, we provide safety critical expertise to aviation, industrial and automotive customers seeking safe functional hardware and software component platforms. We are seeking a Head of Certification to lead our Safety Critical Certification team in our Engineering organization.In collaboration with the other Engineering groups, the Head of Certification will be responsible for continuing to develop and improve our proven certification processes consistent with international standards including DO-178C / DO-254, ISO 26262, and IEC 61508. As an experienced leader you will also manage a team of Certification Leads overseeing numerous certification programs for multiple safety critical industries. CoreAVI has a proven track record of providing DO-178C and DO-254 artifacts and evidence for avionics and are now expanding into the ISO 26262 (automotive) and IEC 61502 (industrial) domains.This highly visible role includes interacting with CoreAVI leadership across all functions, presenting and explaining certification topics to customers and partners, and serving as the key point of contact for external safety assessors and DERs.   • Defining Certification Process consistent with ISO26262 / DO-178C / DO-254 / IEC 61508 / AS9100 (including defining the practices, processes, and tools that allow us to achieve certification)
  • Ensuring successful certification process execution (including certification documents & artifacts, change requests, code coverage, code reviews, requirements capture and traceability, safety culture )
  • Drive the Safety Culture at CoreAVI, consistent with ISO26262 requirements
  • Leading certification process training and audits with certification authorities
  • Creating / driving creation of planning and closing documents for certification programs.
  • Performing FMEA analyses
  • Creating and continually improving accurate estimates for new certification projects.
  • Provide certification expertise to project and program managers who manage geographically-distributed program execution involving complex embedded software and hardware systems in support of defense and aerospace, automotive, and industrial customers.
  • Provide teams with insightful means to drive down critical risks, as program risks are identified.
  • Coordinate periodic cross-program reviews, program deep dives, and dashboard reports of critical certification program health information.
  • Supervise, coach, mentor, and help recruit for a geographically dispersed and growing team of Certification Leads and contractors and consultants engaged for certification work.
Required Qualifications:
  • 7+ years experience in leading organizations to achieve multiple complex certifications in one or more of DO-178C, ISO 26262, and IEC 61508.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related area (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Proven track record of successful product safety certification.
  • Experience working with external independent assessors (TuV, Exida, etc)
  • Highly experienced in software development processes and best practices, both waterfall and agile.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication are crucial.
  • Able to quickly learn CoreAVI’s business and who to go to for which problems. Politically savvy, but not self-serving.
  • Passionate about people, process, and technologies and able to inspire and motivate others.
  • Experience setting and achieving sound goals, especially OKRs and “SMART” principles.
  • Ability to build and maintain productive relationships with a diverse array of stakeholders and groups in the organization.
  • Strong work ethic with a sense of ownership, urgency, and drive and an unwavering commitment to do the right thing.
  • Proven leadership in facilitating complex discussions to achieve goals and solve problems. Proven analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Continuous drive for learning, pushing technical limits, and finding new solutions
Desired Skills & Experience:
  • Experienced with software tools commonly used for certification, particularly IBM DOORS, Workflow Manager (RTC), and Git / Bitbucket.
  • Previous experience as an embedded software developer and or knowledge of Graphics and compute framework is a plus (OpenGL SC 1.0, OpenGL SC 2.0, Vulkan 1.2).
  • Experience with embedded operating systems (VxWorks, Integrity, Linux, DEOS, etc.)
  • Experience with Six Sigma, Lean principles, OKRs (Objectives & Key Results).
  • Experience with Defense / Aerospace markets, automotive ADAS & autonomous driving, AI, and/or industrial automation and robotics.
  • Experience in contributing to international safety standards (ISO, IEC, SotIF, UL4600, etc.)
