We bring together the strength of one of Canada’s most trusted names in financial services with some of the best asset managers from around the world to deliver a truly global investment platform.Reporting to the Director, Financial Reporting & Controls the Manager, Individual Wealth Financial Control team will be responsible for ensuring the timeliness, accuracy, and completeness of accounting transactions from the Individual Wealth administration systems through to the General Ledger. This includes cash controls monitoring, accounting, and reporting related to the Individual Wealth business. The Manager Individual Wealth Financial Control will be responsible for providing enthusiastic leadership of the Wealth Financial Control team, focusing on talent development and team engagement, ensuring that controls are in place and operating effectively, and all team deliverables are met in a timely fashion.What will you do

  • Ensure that accounting requirements are met on a weekly, monthly, and/or quarterly basis within required timelines
  • Manage and review the completion of monthly account reconciliations and unclaimed property reporting
  • Evaluate and challenge internal controls, propose enhancements to controls and investigate the cause of internal control weaknesses. Ensure appropriate action plans are developed and assist in remediation testing.
  • Act as a liaison and facilitator with regulatory agencies, external and internal auditors ensuring requests are handled in a timely manner; ensure appropriate supporting documents are provided
  • Coordinate and lead internal control walkthrough meetings with relevant individuals from business unit and the internal and external auditors, or regulatory. Communicate effectively with management and ensure that issues are raised and addressed in a timely manner
  • Provide leadership and support for relevant Canadian and/or Corporate projects and initiatives, including the IFRS 17 project
What do you need to succeed
  • Accounting designation (CPA) or 3-5 years financial services experience
  • Previous internal/external regulatory audit, Enterprise Operational Risk Management, or control development, and testing would be an asset
  • Strong time management skills and ability to handle multiple ongoing project deliverables
  • Ability to operate in an environment experiencing rapid change
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with both direct reporting relationships and partnering across the organization
  • Excellent problem solving, ability to find pragmatic solutions, decision making, analytical capabilities, and organization skills
  • Proficiency with Oracle Ledger Systems (including Discoverer & Frontier)
Preferred skills
  • Knowledge of and experience with Sun Life’s internal administration systems including Prism, Ingenium and LA
  • Business knowledge and experience related to the financial services industry, specifically Sun Life’s individual wealth products and services
  • Experience with Oracle and/or SAP ledger environment
  • Previous work experience in the investment or insurance industry
The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.
