Job Description

Oversees data communications within the Regional network; implements, configures, coordinates, controls, maintains, supports, and monitors usage of the network; maintains and repairs network components; provides end-user support for network and hardware issues; consults with other ITS staff as a technical resource for client departments during the planning and implementation of custom networks.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Extensive knowledge of current computer and mobile technologies, languages, hardware, network and server technologies, and programming/scripting language processes acquired through a minimum 3-year university degree in Computer Science or 3-year community college diploma in Computer Systems Technology plus 3 years of related experience.
  • Mechanical aptitude and analytical and technical skills to analyze hardware and software conditions, probe for information, apply principles, and resolve user problems. Ability to apply information from technical references, periodicals, and seminars to maintain technical knowledge.
  • Ability to organize own time effectively, prioritize work, meet immediate and inflexible deadlines, and achieve results.
  • Human relations and communication skills to deal with end users at all levels of computer skill and knowledge; identify and understand the use of software and hardware to support network functions and achieve desired output; train users who are occasionally frustrated or resistant; and participate as an effective team member.
  • Ability to represent divisional interests and provide technical expertise at interdepartmental client meetings, including those involving consultants and contractors.
  • Ability to read, understand, and apply information found in publications and trade journals, software and hardware manuals, and system design and development documentation to maintain knowledge of technology trends and identify automation opportunities.
  • Ability to discuss needs with outside companies, exchange technical application information with staff in the division, and communicate technical information to non-technical and technical users and support individuals, (in small groups or one-on-one); respond to user requests in person or using software packages and instruct individuals on using new and modified equipment and procedures.
  • Ability to document network-related policies and procedures, and prepare network usage and monitoring reports.
  • Ability to travel to other locations within the Region.
  • Ability to support and project values compatible with the organization.
