Our small team is work from home supported and is responsible for effecting reinsurance contracts for new and in force reinsurance arrangements resulting from Product & Pricing and other related stakeholder (e.g., Underwriting & Claims) projects. As an Individual Reinsurance Consultant, you will report to the Director, Individual Reinsurance, and be part of this unique team and work.What will you doIn this role, you will be an essential contributor in leading reinsurance treaty development, management, compliance and reporting via:

• The drafting, maintenance and successful completion of Individual Life & Health reinsurance treaties, amendments, and other legally binding agreements for new and in force business.
• Cataloguing, e-filing, and maintaining the Excel inventory of new and in force reinsurance arrangements.
• Collaborating with Individual Life & Health stakeholders such as Pricing, Underwriting, Claims, Legal and Administration, as well as external reinsurance colleagues when drafting new reinsurance documents.
• Advocating for Individual Life & Health and its stakeholders in ensuring the harmonization of treaty language across numerous reinsurance agreements and reinsurance partners.
• Supporting the adherence of regulatory and risk requirements in accordance with Sun Life’s Reinsurance Ceded Policy/Operating Guidelines and Standards of Operation.
• Developing subject matter expertise in reinsurance and treaty language via research and interpretation of in force reinsurance agreements.
• Imparting analysis and support to 1/4ly and annual reinsurance reporting activities including reinsurer due diligence reviews involving financial statements, industry ratings, and the reinsurer’s operational quality.
• Contributing to reinsurance problem solving and team process improvements.

What do you need to succeed

• Exceptional communication skills (written and verbal) with the ability to interpret and communicate technical reinsurance treaty clauses to individuals at all levels is required.
• Acute attention paid to detail.
• Effective negotiation skills. Must be able to interpret, influence, and mediate treaty contract clauses/wordings while understanding their impact/significance and potential values or risks to the organization.
• Advanced problem solving and decision-making skills.
• Excellent time management skills including the ability to adapt to changing priorities and timelines.
• Self-motivated, drives for results, able to self-direct and work autonomously while reliably meeting project deadlines.
• Robust analytical skills, including the use of Excel to analyze and catalogue sizeable amounts of reinsurance treaty data for risk management reporting and other reinsurance research projects.
• Proficient knowledge of mainstream software such as MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook, OneNote, FileNet and SharePoint and embraces innovative technology.

What is nice to have

• Knowledge of the reinsurance industry and/or individual insurance industry including basic actuarial and product pricing concepts.
• Familiar with Individual Life & Health insurance products and administrative practices.
• Experience in policy drafting, contract drafting or other formal document drafting.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.
