Job Description

Grand River Foods is proud to be a growing, Canadian owned and operated company that produces quality Canadian food products.We offer long term, stable employment with competitive wage and benefit packages along with continuous learning opportunities to grow, develop and support you in your career objectives.We currently have openings on both our DAY (7am-3pm) and AFTERNOON (3pm-11pm) shifts at our Waterloo facility located at 35 Northland Road for our Shipping/Receiving department.The Shipper/Receiver is responsible for receiving raw products and supplies from incoming trucks and producing accurate paperwork on these deliveries. Load and provide accurate paperwork on all outgoing shipments. Provide timely material handling to the production areas when requested or required. Keep accurate inventory records of all freezers, coolers and dry storage areas. Safely and competently operate a pallet truck, electric walkie, electric reach truck.DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Receive shipments of raw/frozen product from trucks using a pallet truck or electric walkie
  • Label all incoming materials with receiving dates and kill dates or lot numbers for fresh product
  • Load outgoing trucks using pallet trucks or electric walkies
  • Respond to production requests for boxes, skids, breading, etc. in a timely and safe manner
  • Take accurate inventories from the freezers and coolers
  • Keep work area clean, free of trip hazards and other safety hazards and report workplace hazards they become aware of to their supervisor or JHSC member
  • Operate a reach truck, pallet truck and electric walkie safely
  • Take instruction and direction from supervisors and managers
  • Work flexible hours and shifts in a team oriented, cold environment
  • Compares and verifies information from incoming and outgoing shipments against BOLs, invoices, or other records
  • Examines incoming shipments, rejects damaged items, records shortages and shortweights and documents findings
  • Examines outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet specifications and documents
  • Maintains inventory of shipping materials and supplies
  • Refers to MSDS for incoming chemical shipments to ensure safety, handling and storage instructions
  • Fills out raw inspection reports and dry/packaging/chemical receiving forms and various log books
  • Uses scales to verify and record weights and use digital thermometers to verify and record temperatures of products
QUALIFICATIONS:Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to work day and afternoon shifts
  • Above average verbal and written communication skills and basic math skills
  • Legible handwriting and a good memory
  • Familiarity with food plant procedures and HACCP Program are an asset
  • Must possess a good attendance and performance record
  • Safety oriented, mechanically inclined
  • Able to effectively prioritize multiple tasks efficiently and without constant supervision
  • Must be able to deal with frequent interruptions and changing priorities
  • Ability to deal with many different cultures and language groups
  • Must be well organized, conscientious and aware of the need to pay attention to details
Education
  • High school graduate preferred
Experience
  • 1-2 years experience as forklift operator or material handler in a warehouse environment preferred, but on the job training and certification is provided.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Varying schedule with overtime required, including weekends and alternate shifts
  • Cold environment with slippery floors
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT:
  • Able to tolerate long periods in an artificially refrigerated environment and frequent movement between very different temperatures
  • Tolerant of working with raw food products including meat
  • Able to ascend heights up to 20 feet
  • Excellent hand to eye co-ordination
  • Ability to sustain a moderate level of physical activity related to lifting or pulling products weighing up to 25 kg and work on their feet most of the day, standing, walking, bending and stooping to load and unload orders
