Job Description

Orders, receives, warehouses, issues, returns, ships, picks up and delivers goods; posts inventory transactions and maintains records; and monitors Regional fuel supply.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Knowledge of math, inventory components (e.g., turnover, cycle inventory, cycle counting, buffer stock, lead time, carrying costs, material requirement planning, sourcing); shipping and receiving; and inventory management, acquired through a Grade 12 education, and 2 years of stockroom experience in a computerized environment.
  • Knowledge of and ability to comply with job-related corporate policies and procedures, spills management, and relevant legislation and regulations (e.g., Liquid Fuels Regulation of the Technical Standards & Safety Association (TSSA), WHMIS, Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act, Gasoline Handling Act). Knowledge of automotive parts.
  • Communication skills to provide customer service, including assisting clients to identify needs; source materials and exchange parts information and place orders with vendors; investigate and resolve discrepancies; and participate as an effective team member.
  • Ability to read and understand parts and other manuals to determine parts needed and identify part numbers. Ability to proofread and verify computer data. Ability to prepare correspondence associated with transactions with suppliers and other Regional departments. Ability to complete requisition forms and inventory control counts, and keep a daily record of parts dispensed.
  • Computer skills with ability to use software such as Microsoft Office, Crystal Reports, purchasing systems, fuel systems, and the Internet.
  • Organization, prioritization, attention to detail, and reasoning skills to provide customer service while meeting deadlines/timelines associated with other aspects of work; investigate and take steps to resolve discrepancies and issues identified by self, customers, systems, and others; monitor and ensure accuracy; source materials; and ensure materials are ordered or readily available for customers.
  • Must provide and acceptable Police Records Check to prove bondability.
  • Valid class "G" drivers licence (or G2 with 3 years of driving experience) and satisfactory driving record are required to operate a Regional vehicle. Must be able to obtain forklift truck operation certification and electric pallet truck certification.
  • Participates in after-hours rotational on-call systems.
  • Ability to support and demonstrate the Region’s values.
Note: As per the collective agreement, probationary employees will receive 5% less than the regular permanent rate of the classification they are employed in, until the completion of three (3) months continuous service or sixty (60) actual days worked, whichever is the greater.
