What will you do in this job:From the panoramic views of Waterton Lakes National Park to the architecture and craftsmanship of the building itself, every aspect of the Prince of Wales Hotel experience is unforgettable. The Assistant General Manager of the Prince of Wales Hotel (AGM-PWH) is a key #2 to the General Manager, with focus on maintaining the hotel’s unique and historic culture while managing all aspects of the hotel’s operations.The Assistant General Manager, Prince of Wales Hotel provides hands-on leadership to inspire a seasonal team to deliver personalized experiences to guests across the approximately 125 days of the hotel’s operating schedule. Through open communication, planning, organizing, coaching and a keen eye for detail, this role ensures that the history and beauty of the Prince of Wales Hotels comes to life daily. The AGM-PWH will assist with all aspects of hotel management to ensure profitable and sustainable hotel operation.
  • Provide leadership for up to 100 summer seasonal workers to efficiently and expertly run hotel operations
  • Ensures the safety and protection of property, guests and staff
  • Acts as a good steward for Waterton National Park lands and pristine areas surrounding the Prince of Wales Hotel
  • Ensures a line of open communication that prevents surprises
  • Actively welcomes daily guests to the hotel with warmth and charm that fits the hotel’s unique spirit
  • Actively participates in welcoming staff to the hotel, orienting new team members, setting expectations, overseeing staff housing, delivering regular reward and recognition, and ensuring proper adherence to policies and procedures
  • Raises the energy of the team by modeling behaviors that inspire others: positivity – humor - ethics - leadership
  • Works closely with the Glacier Park Collection HR (People & Culture) team to assist with all aspect of the staff experience, including hiring, animation and engagement planning, recognition, performance management, logistics, and training
  • Coordinates with Pursuit Payroll and Accounting for Prince of Wales Hotel
  • Ensures hotel staff have the necessary tools to operate efficiently and safely
  • Ensures that guest or staff concerns are resolved fairly and in a timely manner, promoting a warm and friendly culture among both team members and guests
  • Works closely with managers to ensure regular staff housing inspections are conducted and that facilities are kept in good condition
  • Manages by walking around – ensuring that common areas, restaurants, shops, back of house and exterior grounds are clean and well managed
What skills and experience do you need for this job:
  • 2 years’ experience in a Hotel GM or Assistant GM role, or related hospitality management experience
  • Strong hospitality, service, and/or culinary work experience required
  • Hotel management or Restaurant degree preferred
  • Previous experience with public speaking preferred
  • Previous experience curating a historic property or location preferred
  • Knowledge of Waterton National Park, Alberta and Parks Canada desired
  • Experience working with seasonal staff desired
  • Must be legally able to work in Canada
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license
  • Work-ethic and commitment to the team and guest is key
  • Be willing and able to work solo or as part of a team
