Job Description

Utility Worker - Environmental Services - CasualCentrally located in the beautiful Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia, Kings Regional Rehabilitation Centre(KRRC) serves some 200 children and adults with physical, intellectual and developmental disabilities,mental health and social challenges. KRRC employs over 600 professional and support staff on a casual, partand full-time basis, making our organization one of the largest employers in the region. Staff are employedboth within the main Centre and in smaller, Community Options homes.KRRC currently has openings for Casual Utility Workers, Environmental Services Department in Waterville,N.S.Working as part of the Environmental Services team and reporting to the Coordinator of Environmental Services, theUtility Worker is responsible for the performance of housekeeping and laundry services. All tasks are performed safelyand with attention to detailed standards ensuing a safe, hygienic and attractive home for clients and workplace forstaff.As casual staff, reliability is important and staff will be scheduled in advance for some shifts and on-call for othershifts. Shifts are 8 hours in length.KRRC provides a competitive salary and opportunity for application to permanent job postings.These positions are members of the CUPE Local 1472.Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma - Grade XII or the equivalent
  • Knowledge and experience in laundry and/or housekeeping is an asset
  • Exhibit sound judgement and initiative
  • Ability to work independently
  • Comfortable and respectful of people with disabilities
  • Able to work safely and with attention to hygiene standards that meet Infection Control standards
  • Ability to withstand the physical nature of the job including standing, bending, kneeling, and the lifting
and moving of heavy and awkward objects
  • Available to work weekdays, weekends and holidays, 8-hour shifts
  • Required to provide a negative criminal record check with vulnerable sector check.
