Job Description

Title: Flock CaretakerReports To: Farms ManagerEmployment Status: Permanent Full-TimeJob Location: Waterville, Nova ScotiaAtlantic Poultry Incorporated (API) provides high quality poultry products to customers throughout NB, NS, PEI and NL. API has evolved to become a significant stakeholder in the Atlantic Canada agriculture industry. We continue to be 100% owned by Atlantic Canadians and our goal is to maintain a strong and locally owned poultry industry.SUMMARYAPI is looking for a dedicated individual seeking an opportunity to work in the dynamic poultry industry. API offers year-round full-time employment, with a competitive compensation package which includes family health benefits, EAP and company pension.The Flock Caretaker will join API’s team working out of the Waterville, Nova Scotia location. For more information on the role, please see below.SCHEDULEAveraging 40 hours per week. The individual must be able to work flexible hours including early morning, evenings, weekends, holidays and be available to answer on-call alarms.REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience in the livestock industry preferred
  • Ability to work with live poultry
  • Strong commitment to health & safety
  • Ability to lift up to 14kgs (30lbs)
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team with minimal supervision
  • Pleasant, outgoing personality, with a friendly positive approach
  • Willing to learn new skills
  • Valid driver’s license & own transportation
MAJOR DUTIES
  • Follow feed programs and monitor levels
  • Ensure water quality and supply are adequate
  • Monitor and regulate ventilation and temperature
  • Maintain accurate daily records
  • Handle live and deceased birds
  • Follow a spray vaccination program
  • Daily barn maintenance i.e., clean floors, garbage removal, and culling as required
  • Input data using electronic devices
  • Other farm duties as assigned by the Farms Manager
