Our dedicated library staff deliver award-winning services delivering programs, partnerships, and amenities that enhance the well-being of our community.The West Vancouver Memorial Library has an opening for a Replacement Temporary Full-Time Head of Collections for approximately 10 months or until the incumbent returns. Reporting to the Director of Library Services, this position is responsible for managing the operations of the Collections Department for the Library and supporting the Director with strategic planning, policy development, and service assessment as it relates to the Department. Duties are currently under review. Responsibilities include:Overseeing and coordinating multiple specialized services or functions by planning, organizing, managing and evaluating the operations of the department while ensuring that services meet the needs of staff and the public;Managing the lifecycle of physical and digital collections, including inventory management, selection, cataloguing, processing, deaccessioning, and shelving. Conducting and implementing process improvements to achieve efficiencies and optimum uses of resources;Performing advanced administrative database functions such as maintenance related to collection and borrower records, authority control, and establishing and editing loan rules and load tables;Ensuring an effective and efficient work team by providing management direction to employees and planning, assigning, and supervising work. Ensuring optimum staff productivity through selection, training, development and motivation;Completing statistical and operational analysis and producing reports and documentation related to collection usage and borrowers;Overseeing departmental work plans, capital and operating budget requests, quarterly and annual financial reports, and evaluation reports;Participating in employee and labour relations matters; andParticipating in other duties and special projects as assigned.The preferred candidate will possess: knowledge of the principles and practices of librarianship and of the objectives, organization, and procedures of the library; knowledge of the methods, techniques, practices and procedures related to the organization and implementation of library programs, projects, services, and policies; and knowledge of library services, software systems and management processes. The preferred candidate will also possess: strong facilitation skills; the ability to lead cross-functional teams in collaborative planning, implementation and evaluation of services and initiatives; superior oral, written and presentation communication skills; and superior interpersonal skills.The successful candidate has completed a Master’s Degree in Library Science from an accredited Library school and/or other relevant Master’s Degree, plus a minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible professional experience, including three (3) years of relevant management and/or supervisory experience, preferably in a unionized environment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.A valid BC Driver’s License and access to a vehicle are required.
