Together with our lands, our customs and traditions are the foundations of who we are as Skwxwú7meshABOUT THE OPPORTUNITYA job mentor will help clients learn, develop work ethics, accommodate, and perform their work duties. In addition to working on skills related to performing specific job tasks, a job mentor also helps with interpersonal skills necessary in the workplace. The Job Coach will work closely with the employers mentor on a successful employment plan. The job mentor will partner with a new employee during his or her first three months of employment. They offer advice and guidance to help foster and promote the professional development of a new employee. The mentor will understand the position, and can be an effective source of advice and encouragement.Typical Duties & Responsibilities:Develops effective job coaching, employments plans and works ethics.Communicates with clients to understand their goals and ambitions.Assists clients to discover and overcome their personal barriers and set goals.Manages and coordinates community workshops and recruitment efforts with weekly flyers; arranges visits and tours for prospective employment opportunities.Develops and maintains partnerships between the Ta7lnew̓ás Education, Employment and Training Department, local school systems, employment centres, community organizations, and Squamish Nation industry partners throughout the Lower Mainland and Sea to Sky Corridor.Develops and project manages recruitment strategies for employment opportunities.Asks industry partners/organizations for feedback for clients to help build successful work ethics.Coordinates participation at local recruitment fairs, open houses and information sessions; coordinates event-specific organizational aspects, promotional materials and information for the Ta7lnew̓ás Education, Employment and Training Department.Develops relationships with a variety of organization for wage subsidy training and potential employment opportunities.Supports client’s development of resume building and interviewing skills.Formalizes the training and employment relationship with all participating companies and trade associations involved in our programs.Keeps management abreast of developments with key external partners regarding clients working at those organizations.Deals with client behavioural challenges regarding tardiness, absentee issues and/or attitudinal concerns.Education, Level of Experience & Hiring Requirements:Bachelor’s or Diploma in Business, Human Resources, Social Work, Psychology, Education or relevant/related field from a recognized post-secondary institution.3 - 5 years (with Bachelors) OR 7 – 9 years (with Diploma) of directly-related experience in the majority of duties listed in the job description, including, full-cycle recruiting, employment counselling, utilizing social media as a hiring tool, working one-on-one with clients (internal and external), working with multi-barrier clientele, relationship building, organizational/ time management, etc.As career progresses, incumbent will be required to successfully complete job-required, short-term upgrading, training and courses relating to First Nation’s focus, career counselling, budget management, etc.Working experience with a large scale computerized database system.
