Job Description

(PERMANENT, FULL-TIME)Located on the traditional, ancestral and unceded lands of the Squamish, Tsleil-Waututh and Musqueam Nations, West Vancouver is a vibrant community on the North Shore and home to parks, beaches, and to sports, recreation and arts amenities. We are seeking employees with a passion for public service who share our commitment to creating a complete, inclusive and livable community.The District’s Information Technology Services Department has an immediate opening for a permanent, full-time Network Administrator with a focus on network security and telephony. Reporting to the Information Technology Services Manager, this position’s responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate network and server hardware installation and maintenance
  • Organize IT systems asset lifecycle management
  • Knowledge of best practice network wiring, UPS, rack and telecom equipment management
  • Manage a Hyper-Converged Infrastructure (HCI) farm
  • Manage a VMware VSphere cluster
  • Manage Veeam, disk, cloud and tape backup solutions
  • Provide recommendations for Network and systems operations such as Microsoft server family and Cisco networking products
  • Lead projects to enhance and manage IT systems infrastructure
  • Administer technologies such as Cloud WAF, enterprise Firewalls, wired and wireless networks as well as VPN and Citrix remote access solutions
  • Configure and install routers, switches and related network equipment
  • Participate in the implementation of the District’s public cloud architecture including Azure AD, Azure workloads, Azure DevOps as well as SaaS platforms
  • Engage with vendors and contractors as part of IT Infrastructure projects
The preferred candidate will poss ess:
  • Experience with implementation and maintenance of LAN and WAN networks ;
  • VMware vSphere virtual infrastructure proficiency
  • Modern Microsoft Server family knowledge, certification or equivalent experience
  • Experience with proficiency backup systems such as Veeam or similar
  • Ability to install highly organized and clean network racks, wiring and equipment
  • Cisco networking solutions experience
  • Remote access solutions, i.e. VPN and Citrix
  • Public Cloud experience , Azure is desirable
  • Understanding and experience with DevOps tools and practices
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision and as part of a tea m
Desirable qualifications include any two of the following: Microsoft on-prem and Azure/cloud certifications, CCNA ( CCNP preferred) or Cisco DevNet certifications or equivalent experience.This position will allow for a hybrid of remote and on-site work.The successful candidate must hold a valid Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia and has graduated from an institute of technology with a diploma in computer sciences or a related discipline plus considerable related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.The successful candidate is required to supply a police information check and a copy of their credentials.This posting does not list all the duties of the position, nor does it fully detail the required skills, knowledge and abilities, licenses and certificates required of candidates.
