Job Description

(Casual)Located on the traditional, ancestral and unceded lands of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations, West Vancouver is a vibrant community on the North Shore and home to parks, beaches, and to sports, recreation and arts amenities. Our dedicated staff deliver services, operate facilities and run the programs that enhance the well-being of our community.The West Vancouver Community Services Department has openings for casual Playcare Leader I (Childminding) positions, which are responsible for:

  • Guiding, engaging, and caring for infant and pre-school aged children while providing a safe and welcoming environment for both children and parents;
  • organizing activities for children of varying ages and stages of development. This involves: implementing themes; preparing and choosing related materials such as books, songs and puppets; and identifying required materials and supplies;
  • leading and instructing various activities for children;
  • preparing and serving snacks and lunches;
  • ensuring safety of children in the centres and outside areas;
  • monitoring and correcting behavior and enforcing centre policy;
  • administering minor first aid and following accident and emergency procedures;
  • cleaning the centres including tables and floors, washing and tidying toys, washing and folding clothes, tidying the kitchen;
  • preparing the centres for the planned theme and various activities;
  • explaining the registration process and centres activities; responds to questions and raises concerns to the supervisor who refers parents/families to community resources; and
  • establishing and maintaining effective relationships with parents, children, other staff, and volunteers.
The successful candidates will have: completed a grade 12 education, courses related to the work and sound related experience in childminding or daycare operation; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. The successful candidates must have a valid First Aid Certificate and current CPR-C training.The successful candidate is required to supply a police information check with vulnerable sector and a copy of their credentials.
