To find out more about our work visit:Employment and Financial Services (EFS) Division is responsible for policy development and delivery of employment and income services including contracted employment services, career resources, and the Income Support (IS) and Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped (AISH) programs.RoleAs a Child Support Services Worker you will utilize your excellent investigative, written communication, interviewing and organizational skills to locate persons responsible for the financial support of children receiving financial benefits through Alberta Works.Your assessment and negotiation skills will be utilized when dealing with the legal community and possibly uncooperative respondents. You will also assist families in either negotiating a child support agreement or obtaining an order for child support.. In some circumstances, you will initiate court action on behalf of the government to obtain court ordered maintenance.This position will give you the opportunity to use your knowledge of legal statutes and agencies/programs related to this area.We require an individual who can carry a high volume caseload and is interested in having significant interaction with the justice system. Your skill set should also include strong decision making skills and well developed presentation and interpersonal skills.QualificationsUniversity degree in Social Science (Sociology, Criminology, Psychology, Economics), Social Work, Education, Legal Administration, Humanities, or a related field with 2 years of progressively responsible, directly related experience, or a related Social Sciences Diploma with 4 years of progressively responsible experience is required.Equivalency for directly related education or experience considered on the basis of: 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.A cover letter is required and may be used to determine your communication capabilities.The following will be considered assets:

  • Experience working with Income Support/Alberta Works programs and venerable Albertans is preferred
  • Court related experience would be an asset
  • Experienced working with Community and Social Services (CSS) is preferred
  • Decision making, assessment, interviewing skills required Ability to gather information on complex family situations and to assess each situation to determine appropriate action and potential referrals to other programs and services. Assessment of risk to families to support case management decisions.
  • Preferred Knowledge of all relevant legislation, regulations and guidelines, including Income and Employment Supports Act, Family Law Act, Alberta Rules of Court Regulations, Child Support Program Policy, Expected to Work (ETW)/ Barriers to full time employment (BFE) Policy & Procedures, Alberta Child Support Guidelines.

Salary$2,556.10 to $3,355.81 bi-weekly ($66,714 to $87,586 per year)Notes
  • This competition is for temporary position on or before December 31, 2022 with the possibility of extension if required based on Wetaskiwin office location.
- Full-time regular office hours are Monday to Friday 8:15AM- 4:30PM, 36.25 hours weekly.
  • The successful candidate will be required to have a valid Alberta Drivers license and have access to a reliable vehicle as travel is required.
