Job Description

The Wetaskiwin Regional School Division has an opening for a Technician II in our IT Department. Reporting directly to the Information Technology Manager, the IT Technician II position is responsible for the overall maintenance, repair, installation and configuration of all computer equipment and related hardware and software within the Division. The incumbent will also provide technical user support for Division students and staff and will respond and attend to work orders as they are received; troubleshooting and resolving issues concerning hardware, software, networks, servers, databases and applications. Additionally, the IT Technician II will also be responsible for the development, testing and deployment of applications, will manage network access, set privacy levels, manage email access and oversee the Division’s network and security policies. Position holders are required to maintain and continually develop their technical abilities and knowledge in order to adapt and effectively attend to positional requirements. Please note there is a physical component to the job including lifting up to 50 lbs., climbing ladders, bending, crouching etc.Specific Duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Have a strong understanding of various windows desktop issues and how to resolve them
  • Provide technical support over the phone, in person and remotely to end users (must be willing to travel on-site)
  • Configure, setup and maintain Windows-based computers/servers and Chromebooks via a variety of automation tools
  • Maintain, monitor and troubleshoot networks, software, printers, sound systems, projectors and Smartboards
  • Installation of classroom hardware such as projectors and sound systems
  • Work with IT Team to maintain network infrastructure
  • Work with IT Team on various project deployments
  • Commitment to the Health and Safety Program and training as prescribed by the Board
  • Other duties as assigned
Preference will be given to candidates with following:
  • Solid and applied level of knowledge in Aruba network infrastructure
  • Solid and applied level of knowledge in VMWARE vitalization software, Veeam Backup and replication
  • Solid and applied level of knowledge in Microsoft Azure implementations
  • Sound and paging systems installation / troubleshooting
  • Microsoft Windows 10 / Server Management
  • Google Workspace
  • Experience with VOIP implementation an asset
  • Minimum 2-year degree/diploma in computer sciences or equivalent
  • 3 years’ relevant work experience in an IT/System Analyst role would be an asset
  • Ability to work individually and collaboratively work as part of a team
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Strong interpersonal skills including communication skills
  • commitment to the Health and Safety Program and training as prescribed by the Board
