The Collections Assistant will be an integral member of the Heritage Museum team through their support in the area of collections management. The summer student will work with our Collections Registrar to improve collections procedures in the areas of storage, preservation, and expansion of information in the collections database. The Collections Assistant will also be responsible for other collections related duties such as cleaning and maintenance of displays, exhibits, and storage areas; repair of aged accession numbers and labels; assisting the Collections Registrar with collections accessioning; and any minor projects that may arise during the employment term. The Collections Assistant will also aid in other areas of museum operations including greeting museum visitors as well as gift & coffee shop sales. Further, they will have the opportunity to assist with school and public tours, monthly visits to senior’s homes, as well as museum outreach through posts on our Website, Facebook page, and Instagram.Necessary Qualifications:- Full-time University or College student who is currently enrolled in a degree or diploma program.- While all students are encouraged to apply, preference will be given to those with a field of study in museum, cultural heritage, or art and design studies; education; and / or liberal arts programs such as: History; Anthropology; Archaeology; Indigenous Studies; Gender Studies; Classics; and English.- Efficient computer and word processing (Microsoft Office) skills.
