Job Description

Additional information about the Company can be found at www.abctechnologies.com.Job Summary:A Gundrill Operator in our Windsor Mold Tooling Division facility will run a horizontal machining center called a gundrill. This machine is used for a variety of drilling and milling operations on injection mold components. The Gundrill Operator plays a crucial role in ensuring that mold components are manufactured to tolerances called out in CAD data and within budget.Job Responsibilities:

  • Use magnets, angle plates, FCS and other fixturing systems to create a stable working holding arrangement for work piece. The operator is also responsible for picking up the location of the work piece and setting the machine datums.
  • May be responsible for programming the machine using Lemoine V7 and Eureka software.
  • Run the provided programs through a Heindenhain controller and monitors the operation of the gundrill, ensuring that it is cutting the workpiece correctly and to the required specifications.
  • Make adjustments to the machine settings during the machining process to maintain accuracy and efficiency as required.
  • Responsible for all cutting tools required for the machining process.
  • Inspect the workpieces during and after the machining processes to ensure all features are machined to the tolerances called out in the CAD data while also completing all required quality checklists and documentation. This may involve using precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, and machine technology such as strain gauge probes.
  • Responsible for basic maintenance tasks on the gundrill, such as cleaning and lubricating. The operator may also be required to assist the maintenance department as required for repairs and maintenance.
  • Ensuring that all safety protocols and procedures are followed during machine operation to prevent accidents and injuries.
Job Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent is the minimum requirement. Vocational training or certification in machining, CNC operation, or related fields can be beneficial.
  • 1-3 years of CNC or manual machining experience performing 2D tasks operating similar machinery is preferred.
  • Prior use of Lemoine RTM software to develop toolpaths for the machining of mold components is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of machining principles, including cutting speeds, feeds, and tooling selection.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and CAD/CAM files.
  • Basic math skills for performing calculations and measurements as well as Microsoft Windows/Office skills.
  • Familiarity with CNC programming and computerized machining systems.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality workpieces.
  • Problem-solving skills to troubleshoot issues that may arise during machining processes.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate with colleagues and follow instructions accurately while also being able to work independently.
