Job Description

- Employment Opportunity: Peer Team Lead- Location: Windsor, NS- Salary Range: $20/hour- Employment Term: April 1st, 2023 – March 31, 2025 (Full time @ 35 hours a week)- Reports To: Project DirectorPeer Outreach Support Services & Education (POSSE Project) - Sponsored by the Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Center is seeking a full time Peer Team Lead outreach worker. General Description: - You will be reporting to the POSSE director, to assist with the delivery of peer-based training, outreach, support, referrals, service navigation, accompaniments in the communities of Windsor, Lower Sackville, Sipekne’katik, and surrounding area. Must be able to maintain confidentiality, provide a safe, non-judgmental presence for youth, engage youth in POSSE initiatives, develop community responses, events/initiatives for youth to participate in, and to address needs in the communities POSSE engages with.- POSSE is seeking a self-motivated person who understands harm reduction philosophy and self-identifies as having lived experience in the one or more areas of marginalized and stigmatized sub-cultures (including but not limited to: substance use, mental health, sexualized violence, exploitation, racialized populations, folx who have experienced homelessness or housing insecurity etc.) Must be able to work as a team and independently.Key Responsibilities: - Ability to provide harm reduction services, crisis intervention, service navigation, accompaniments, and support to all who are accessing POSSE services and programming- Assess and mitigate youth barriers if required- Maintain a high degree of confidentiality at all times- Ability to set and maintain boundaries- Youth and community engagement- Work within a budget to plan, organize, and host activities- Assist with project development and delivery- Maintain a safe, non-judgmental, confidential workspace- Recognized youth as experts in their own lives and their own needs- Ability to adapt well to various situations- Comfortable engaging with youth in community to discover interests and identify needs- Participate in committees, trainings, and other project activities as required- Comfortable talking to people in person, on the phone, on zoom, and/or via email- Provide mental health support to youth from a harm reduction approach- Strong written and oral communication skills- Administrative tasks, including proficiency in outlook, word, excel, Outlook / Microsoft Teams, Data base entry- Day, Evening, and some weekends will be required- Other duties as needed- Qualifications:- A combination of school, professional and lived experience- 2-year post-secondary education in a human services related field considered an asset- A valid drivers license, car, $2 million insurance, a clear drivers abstract- Child abuse registry, criminal record check and vulnerable person screening- Please send your resume and cover letter to: https://mnfc.applytojobs.ca/Application Deadline: February 21, 2023 Disclaimer: The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this job.
