BioVectra Inc. is a leading bio-science business in Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia, focused on contract manufacturing and product development of active pharmaceutical ingredients, pharmaceutical intermediates, and bioreagents.BioVectra Inc. has an opening for a Process Development Scientist, Biologics. This is a permanent, full-time position located in Windsor, Nova Scotia.The candidate will be responsible for:Carrying out literature searches as appropriate to currently known methods, designing new approaches as required, and preparing research plans.Development and optimization of fermentation processes for pharmaceutical products.Preparation, testing and maintenance of cell banks.Developing downstream isolation and purification processes for both small molecule and protein products.Responsible in tech transfer from laboratory scale to production scale.Participate in identifying problems in pilot and commercial fermentation runs as required and trouble shooting by designing scale-down models and implementing process improvements.Interpreting associated analytical results and knowledge & use of current techniques to characterize the uniformity of the culture and the quality of the resulting product (Gram staining, PCV, HPLC, SDS-PAGE, etc.).Writing Batch Production Records, cGMP protocols, work instructions and scientific progress reports.Following the company’s quality standard (quality management system procedures and cGMP regulations).Assist the departmental manager ensuring the work place is clean and equipment is well maintainedTraining and supervising research assistants or summer students if needed.Complying with approved safety practices for the laboratory and manufacturing facilities.Must be able to work flexible/extended hours periodically as dictated by process needs.The successful candidate for this position should have:B.Sc. in microbiology or biochemistry with a strong working knowledge in fermentation/cell culture and downstream processing or equivalent combination of education and experience in an industrial R&D or manufacturing environment.2-5 years large scale fermentation experience and downstream processing in a cGMP environment is preferred.Computer related skills including familiarity with word processing and spreadsheets, as well as the ability to conduct online database searches.Excellent oral and written communication skills.BioVectra offers a competitive salary and benefit package.Closing Date: June 8th 2021Individual accommodations due to a disability are available upon request for candidates taking part in all aspects of the selection process.
