To replace a permanent employee on a casual basis performing general supervision and care of a classroom, safety, and well-being of the children.Interact with the children to provide support and care.Recognize and respond to the needs of each child by using developmentally appropriate teaching and child behaviour management techniques.Assist in the planning, preparing, and implementing stimulating, age-appropriate activities that encourage children’s creativity and learning, and promote each child’s social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development.Role models appropriate behaviours and attitudes, supporting the mission of The Learning Corner.May assist in orientating new children and families; provides on-going feedback on child’s development and behaviour.May be required to safely escort children to and from school and on trips or walks outside the centre.Participate in special events put on by the Child Care Centre.Assist with effective risk management; monitor food safety, medication storage/disbursement, allergies, and facility cleanliness/maintenance; provide emergency first aid and complete and file incident reports as required.Ensure that all information about children, families, staff, visitors, and volunteers are strictly confidential; and that activity records and statistics are stored in a secure location.Establish and maintain regular communication with parents.Must know and implement: Centre routines and practices;CCEYA regulations; the Health Department guidelines.Attend and participate actively in all program/centre, staff, parental or other meetings as required.Perform other duties as required.WORKING CONDITIONS: This is a casual relief position with no guaranteed hours.Flexibility in scheduling is required.This position is called in to replace vacation and sick day off employee. Called in shifts can range from 3 to 8.5 hours (which includes a ½ hour unpaid meal break if shift is over 5 hours).Normal location of work is: 3199 Lauzon Road, Windsor, ON N8T 2Z7Completed High School, plus specialized courses up to six (6) months.Early Childhood Education Diploma, registered with the College of Early Childhood Educators of Ontario preferred.Current First Aid and CPR CertificationAlternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:Minimum of three (3) months of prior related experience, including working with children in a childcare environmentWorking knowledge of the CCEYASKILLS AND CAPABILITIES:Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening.May require screening through The Salvation Army Abuse RegistryAbility and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.Interested applicants must respond in writing with a cover letter and resume.The Salvation Army offers accommodation for applicants with disabilities in its recruitment process.If you are contacted to participate in an interview or screening process, please advise us if you require accommodation.We thank all applicants, however, only those candidates to be interviewed will be contacted.You must advise your managing supervisor of your intentions prior to submitting your application.
