Job Description

Competition #22-41-AU:Acadia is looking to fill one full-time sessional and two part-time sessional Access Services Assistants positions in the Vaughan Memorial Library. All three positions are 9-month reoccurring sessional roles which typically run from mid August to mid May each academic year. The regular work schedule for each position is listed below:a. Full Time Sessional (35 hours/week) Mon-Fri 5:30 pm - 1:30 amb. Part Time Sessional (17.5 hours/week) Sat-Sun 10:30 am - 6:30 pm & Mon 1:30 pm - 5:00 pmc. Part Time Sessional (17.5 hours/week) Sat-Sun 5:30 pm - 1:30 am & Fri 1:30 pm - 5:00 pmThe Vaughan Memorial Library is committed to supporting study, research, and intellectual growth and to promoting a habit of critical inquiry and a love of learning. Library services are offered to provide the highest standard of programs, services, and resources in support of learning, teaching, research and scholarly communication. The Access Services Assistants are key to keeping the library open and providing front line customer service to our Library patrons which include students, faculty, staff and off-campus guests/community members.Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Access desk coverage - providing and/or facilitating access to Library resources both online and in-house (including the Reserves collection, Media collection, and Interlibrary Loan materials); receiving payment for bills; handling study room bookings; administering a photocopy card service within the library for various University departments; and updating and recording changes in users Library account information.
  • Reference Service - answering basic reference and Access questions received in person at the Desk and by phone or email and referring where appropriate.
  • Security - opening and closing the library, including checking the entire building periodically during non-business hours (evenings, weekends, and holidays); monitoring the security gate at the main entrance/exit of the library, and contacting Acadia Safety and Security regarding building problems, sick or injured students, shuttle service, and emergencies.
  • Equipment - assisting and trouble-shooting equipment.
  • Orientation, training, and supervision of student assistant.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • The preferred candidate will possess a Library Technician Diploma; however, a combination of related training and work experience may also be considered. A bachelors degree would be an asset.
  • We are seeking a candidate who has proven experience delivering a high level of client service and demonstrated ability to think clearly and resolve issues.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to work within a collaborative environment are required.
  • Applicants must be highly proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications. Familiarity with library operations and the related computer programs would be an asset.
  • Applicants must be able to work a flexible schedule which may at times include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Familiarity with Acadias campus, as well as its academic and administrative procedures, would be an asset.
THE REWARDS: Acadia offers a comprehensive benefit package in addition to a starting salary of $35,494 per annum (SEIU Library Support 2). Salary increases to $39,560 following successful completion of 6-month probation period.
