First consideration will be given to internal candidates as defined in Article 58.11(b)(i) of the Collective Agreement (Internal applicants are all individuals on the Precedence List as defined in Articles 11.12(a), 11.12 (b) and 11.12(m) and all Full-Time Employees.).Competition: #EDUC 33-69-23Course Title: EDUC 42K3 SU02 - Indigenous Education and Culturally Responsive Pedagogies (Secondary)Contract Term: June 5, 2023 to July 14th, 2023Course Schedule: Monday to Friday 8:30am-12:00pm (Class Dates June 19 to June 30, 2023)Employee Group: Acadia University Faculty AssociationCourse Description: This course engages pre-service teachers with historical and contemporary overviews of Indigenous education as they explore research informed pedagogical approaches that further their understanding of Indigenous peoples, especially the Mikmaq. Aspects of Treaty Education and Reconciliation will form the foundation for meaningful opportunities to investigate strategies that integrate Indigenous content, knowledge, and perspectives within classroom instruction at the elementary/secondary levels. This course section is intended for Secondary education students.The School of Education has responded to recommendations around hiring from the Indigenous Education Advisory Committee in Spring 2021 as articulated in Presidential Advisory Council on Decolonization (PAC) report. Applications for this position may be forwarded to Mikmaq advisors through Acadias Office of Indigenous Affairs for consultation and review.Qualifications: M.Ed. or higher in an area relevant to the advertised course. Candidates who have lived experience of indigenous worldviews and perspectives will be given preference. Established connections with Indigenous education communities. A record of academic expertise in relevant theories related to indigenous education and culturally responsive pedagogies is required. Current and relevant professional experience with contemporary approaches to teaching indigenous education and culturally responsive pedagogies in Nova Scotian educational context is required. Recent experience as a school-based educator in public and/or band operated schools is preferred. Recent experience designing, delivering, and assessing a teacher education course at a university level is preferred. Successful recent experience working independently and as part of a team is essential. The B.Ed. is a provincially accredited program.
