Job Description

Kitchen Assistant Cook PositionLandmark East School Wolfville, Nova ScotiaPart-Time PositionAbout Landmark East School Landmark East is an independent co-ed day and boarding school for students with learning differences located in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, a small university town nestled in the Annapolis Valley. The student base is diverse with learners who have been diagnosed in a variety of areas such as high functioning Autism, Learning Disabilities, Attention Deficit Disorder and more that can make learning challenging in a traditional school setting. Landmark East School is committed to student-centred learning, small class sizes, daily physical activity, community service and diverse pedagogy. A team of over forty dedicated professionals specializing in various roles drives the school’s success. Landmark East School is a registered charity and actively fundraises to provide student bursaries.Position Requirements: General Responsibilities:

  • Assist Head Cook and Assistant Cook to prepare and serve meals and snacks.
  • Assist Head Cook and Assistant Cook to prepare salads for salad bar.
  • Wash dishes.
  • Launder dish clothes and dish towels.
  • Wipe tables in dining hall before and after each meal.
  • Thorough cleaning of steam table once a week, as well as daily cleaning.
  • Empty garbage and compost containers after every meal as needed.
  • Remove recyclables and cardboard to designated location.
  • Clean and disinfect kitchen surfaces (use checklist to perform kitchen cleaning and disinfection protocols).
  • Sweep and mop kitchen floor daily.
  • Clean and organize shelves in kitchen and larder (see checklist for schedule).
  • Clean and organize walk-in refrigerator and freezer, and chest freezers (see checklist for schedule).
  • Clean stovetops and ovens.
  • Unpack food supplies after deliveries.
  • Take food out of freezer for next day’s menu.
  • Assist with any other duties as needed.
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Head of School.
