Job Description

Position Title: Human Resources Business PartnerDepartment: Human ResourcesLocation: Yellowknife, NTSalary: $85,000 to 110,000 annualPosition Summary: Reporting to the General Manager of Yellowknife Co-op, the Human Resources Business Partner will be responsible for the key Human Resources functions within Yellowknife Co-op operation.The scope of the duties may include recruitment, talent management, training and development, health and safety, labour/employee relations, total rewards, and the administration and support of payroll and employee information. Additional responsibilities include developing and maintaining various reports, conducting research, file maintenance, correspondence and other HR related projects.This position will include support from the Human Resources team in Winnipeg, Manitoba Home Office.Relationships:

  • Reports directly to the General Manager
  • Supports all departments and department managers
  • Maintains internal relationships with all staff and department managers
  • Maintains external relationships with members and suppliers
Core Duties and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the recruitment process including the creation of postings, review of job descriptions, advertising, review of candidate pool, short-listing, pre-screens, interviews, reference checks, and offers. Advise Department Managers on the recruitment process and provide recommendations on the most qualified applicants
  • Coordinates and leads onboarding program
  • Acts as a point of contact to address human resource related questions and concerns from staff, management, board of directors and other stakeholders
  • Supporting, planning and organizing the Foreign Worker Program
  • Coordinates and leads engagement programs that could include health and wellness, diversity efforts and other future engagement programming
  • Lead, administer and coordinate employee programs. Administer and advise on both paid and unpaid leaves of absence (Long Term disability and short term sick leave, Maternity leave, Educational leave, compassionate leave, personal leave, etc).
  • Audit and follow-up on performance reviews, provide supervisors with advice on performance review delivery and issues/concerns, working directly with employees providing advice/guidance
  • Working directly with Team Leaders regarding situations specific to the Collective Agreement (if applicable), including interpretation of the Collective Agreement
  • Provide coaching and assistance with the disciplinary process, formulating disciplinary communication, advice on disciplinary meetings, and involvement in disciplinary meetings when required
  • Assist and co-ordinate with Team Leaders in relation to the grievance procedure.
  • Lead and conduct investigations, which include conducting employee interviews/meetings, record keeping, and follow up documentation to ensure transparency throughout the process (often for sensitive and complex issues such as harassment). Advise and administer the Attendance Management Program for unionized employees (if applicable)
  • Support strategies on safety programs and initiatives. Assist supervisors/managers on the administration of WCB claims and provide assistance with creating return to work programs. Assist with COR initiatives with management and non-management members. Conducting safety audits annually
  • Provide coaching and support to team leaders and team members on all aspects of talent management practices, including goal setting, performance management, talent development, succession planning, onboarding, and exiting employees. Facilitates the Performance Supports business planning with client groups and utilizes KPI’s to inform business decision making as it relates to Talent.
  • Conduct benefits orientation for all team members and team leaders
  • Assists in the development, implementation and administration of HR Policies and Procedures
  • Liase and work with Office team and Payroll
  • Develops various reports and tools, as required, to assist in the administration and to increase the effectiveness of human resource programs and functions
  • Performs general human resource administrative functions as they relate to file maintenance, correspondence, policy administration and reporting
  • Pursues professional and personal development through continuing education, training, literature review, workshops and seminars
  • Future programs and events that would fall under the area of Human Resources
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
Essential Skill and Knowledge:
  • Three to six years of related experience in Human Resource field; preferably with substantial recruitment experience
  • Post secondary education or degree, with a preference in Human Resources or Business
  • Demonstrated knowledge of labour law, employment standards and human rights legislation;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of collective agreement administratio
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Proficient in office software products such as MS Office and HRIS
  • Attention to detail with the ability to identify problem areas proactively
  • High level of integrity with the ability to keep confidential information secure
  • Customer service orientation with the ability to relate to all levels of staff
  • Good problem solving skills
  • Proven commitment to learning and development
  • Ability to identify problem areas and streamline processes
  • Ability to be self motivated with initiative and leadership qualities
  • Ability to make a positive contribution within a team environment
  • Strong knowledge of grocery department and industry would be considered an asset
  • Working towards CPHR Designation or full designation would be considered an asset
