Job Description

About Arctic Canadian Diamond CompanyArctic Canadian is a Canadian mining company and a significant producer and supplier of premium rough diamond assortments to the global market. The company owns and operates the Ekati Diamond Mine, located in Canada’s Northwest Territories. In addition to its mining and exploration operations, Arctic Canadian has offices in Canada and Belgium.Position OverviewReporting to the Team Leader, Health and Safety, and working two (2) weeks on, two (2) weeks off rotation at the Ekati mine site, the successful candidate will provide occupational hygiene support through the anticipation, recognition, evaluation, and control of occupational exposures in the workplace.In addition, the successful candidate will participate in health and safety programs, medical surveillance and ongoing field coaching with employees and contractors. Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Conduct Industrial Hygiene personal and field sampling for exposures to Noise, Silica, Respirable Dust, Welding fumes, and Diesel Particulate Matter (DPM);
  • Perform Confined Space gas (CO, H2S, O2, LEL) testing for permit entry;
  • Communicate observations and findings of occupational exposures, controls and programs to management and the workers in general as required;
  • Perform quantitative and qualitative risk assessments to define similar exposure groups in the Underground Mine, Surface Mine, Processing and Maintenance operations;
  • Audit the Hearing Conservation Program and Respiratory Protection Program to ensure controls are effective; and
  • Conduct workplace inspections and audits to provide recommendations to eliminate hazardous conditions.
Education/Experience
  • Post-secondary degree in Industrial Hygiene, Health and Safety and/or Science related field.
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist or working towards designation is preferred.
  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience in the Occupational Hygiene/Industrial Hygiene field is preferred.
  • Previous experience in mining, or other industrial environments are considered an asset.
  • Strong interpersonal, presentation and communication skills.
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently and coordinate simultaneous sampling plans.
  • Analytical skills to understand laboratory results and perform statistical analysis.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and experience using Cority.
