We are currently seeking a qualified, well-read, and enthusiastic individual to assume the vibrant position of Part Time Casual Library Assistant with the Community Services Department. The Library serves the population of Yellowknife (approximately 20,000) and offers a comfortable space for reading and studying as well as programs that are offered to residents of all ages from babies to adults. Libraries are truly the gathering places of communities.Under the supervision of the Public Services Librarian, the incumbent provides library services to the public, performs the clerical duties necessary to facilitate the day-to-day operations of the library, and provides interlibrary loan services. The daily work can include registering patrons for library programs, helping patrons with public access computers, assisting with childrens programming, creating and maintaining attractive and informative book displays, processing materials being taken out and returned, maintaining the catalog using the librarys computer system, and coordinating acquisitions by recording orders, verifying shipments with invoices and modifying computer records accordingly.Completion of grade 12 is the minimum requirement although some post-secondary education is preferred. The position requires the individual to be in possession of strong office skills and basic computer literacy. Excellence in customer service is a must. Preference will be given to applicants with previous library experience, as is an individual who has demonstrated knowledge in current subjects, authors and titles for public queries.
