We value and encourage different perspectives and we have the courage to do the right thing, even when it’s hard.This position is responsible for the organizing, coordinating, planning, monitoring, assessing and directing activities of designated line employees and contract resources in such a manner that operations, maintenance or capital work is carried out in a safe, efficient and expeditious manner. This position is key in the delivery of superior customer service and maintaining positive customer relations.We’re looking for someone who cares about their work and strives for more each day.   • Includes the specific duties identified within the PLT Job Description and the following additions:
  • Plans, schedules and assigns work to designated, competent employees involving the construction of new facilities, maintenance of existing facilities, interaction with customers and restoration of damaged facilities.
  • Deals with and responds to customer complaints, service interruptions, line patrols, trouble locates and service restorations as required.
  • Establishes methods to meet work unit’s yearly work plan; schedules and coordinates work activities with employees, departments, contractors, etc. ensuring that the allotted dollars for the construction or maintenance projects are effectively managed, through efficient utilization of equipment and resources.
  • Directs and performs work in the construction, maintenance, testing, repairing, commissioning and operation of the transmission/distribution systems.
  • Applies company policies and procedures (E.g. Health & Safety & Environment, Accounting, and PSWS).
  • Participates in developing maintenance plans.
  • Ensure work completed under this position’s direction complies with approved standards and work methods.
  • Participates, when required, in developing new construction standards.
  • Requisitioning materials and supplies.
  • Responsible for the performance and improvement of company and contract workers in terms of productivity and safety, including setting objectives, performance monitoring, coaching & identifying training requirements to achieve highest levels of performance.
  • Provides a lead role in the development of PLT apprentices and line personnel, by coaching and providing performance feedback.
  • Responsible for updating and implementing job knowledge competencies with regard to new work methods and construction procedures, including assessments and signing off of demonstrated competency.
  • Prepares and approves reports/work plans and permits
  • Monitors costs on assigned projects and reconcile invoices and approve timesheets and expense claims associated with company and contract crew activities.
  • Provides input to the business plan and budget.
  • Completes monthly forecasts
  • Supply input into customer forecasts when required
  • Responsible for the safe care and use of vehicles, tools and equipment under their direction with duties such as assisting in facility and equipment audits.
  • Responsible for maintaining a safe work-site by correcting any unsafe conditions, ensuring safety barriers are managed, reporting incidents and supporting incident investigations.
  • Performs standby duties.
  • Performs other duties as required.
  • Maintain buildings, storage/substation yards in designated areas.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma.
  • Valid Journeyman Powerline Technician Certificate.
  • Ability to obtain Interprovincial Red Seal.
  • Valid Class 5 vehicle operator’s license.
  • Ability to obtain Class 1 or Class 3 Operator’s License.
  • Valid First Aid Certificate.
  • Minimum 3 years experience as a Journeyman Powerline Technician.
  • Strong utilities knowledge, skills and experience at the journeyman level to provide guidance and leadership for employees reporting to this position
  • Sound computer skills, including Mobile TC & Viewer, Syclo, MS Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Demonstrated knowledge of live line techniques using bare hand, sticks and 25kv rubber glove work achieved through live line training is preferred.

Yellowknife is a designated community and a comprehensive northern benefit package will be provided, including:
  • An additional 5% of base salary (northern allowance)
  • An additional $650 a month (northern allowance)
  • Additional 5 days’ vacation for North of 60 positions and 2 travel days
  • Travel allowance administered bi-annually in January and July of each year
