Job Description

Department InformationThe Department of Health and Social Services works under the direction of the Minister and Deputy Minister, in partnership with the Health and Social Services Authorities, to support the health and wellbeing of people across the NWT through planning, development, evaluation and reporting on program and service delivery.HSS is committed to the development and provision of quality services in such a way as to make the best use of public resources, ensure the sustainability of the system, focus on client safety and best practices and promote positive health and social outcomes. HSS strives to continually improve the health and social service system to ensure best health, best care, and a better future for the people of the NWT.Job InformationLocated in Yellowknife and reporting directly to the Public Guardian, the Public Guardian Assistant is accountable for tracking, monitoring and reporting on the Unit’s budget of approximately $300,000.The incumbent provides a focal point for information exchange between the general public and various departmental divisions and regional offices as well as agencies and hospital/health boards. The incumbent must use courtesy, tact and effectiveness in dealing with others in everyday working relationships.The incumbent must coordinate activities and set priorities related to the processing, filing and serving of guardianship applications in addition to maintaining the administration of the Office.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent knowledge of general office practices and procedures.
  • Proven communications skills, in English, both written and oral.
  • Written communications are clear, easy to understand and generally follow the rules of correct grammar, spelling and punctuation.
  • Ability to be meticulous in detail, particularly in preparing and proofreading court documents and applications.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision or direction.
  • Knowledge of Public Guardianship Information Systems.
  • Knowledge of computer programs such as word processing and spread sheets.
