Cover Letter & Resume RequiredRecreation Program ManagerRole SummaryReporting to the Associate Director, the Recreation Program Manager, with the Recreation Program Facilitator (part-time), works to engage youth ages 12–24 in various recreational activities within the community of Yellowknife.The Recreational Program Manager routinely works with other Program Leads at HomeBase Yellowknife, to network and coordinate with community partners to develop, coordinate, and implement youth targeted recreation programs for those who access programs and services at HomeBase Yellowknife.The ideal Recreation Program Manager is innovative, creative, energetic, and ready to work with the team at HomeBase Yellowknife to increase youth success by enhancing available services by fostering a positive and accessible environment for learning, as well as a sense of community.Duties

  • Uphold Youth Recreation Program core values of: Fun, Safety, Teamwork, Confidence, Education, Honesty, Integrity, and Respect for others
  • Collaborate with Navigators and Support Workers to create & schedule daily recreational programming
  • Provide respectful and motivating individualized support to help youth to overcome dependencies, increase independent decision-making and problem solving, and express feelings and facilitate self-awareness
  • Identify community recreational resources and services that are congruent with the youths overall service and transition plans
  • Identify youth needs and interests, assess program responsiveness, and initiate new programming elements, including identified partnerships with community-based organizations
  • Provide normalizing, individualized support while respecting and motivating youth to be engaged in the programs
  • Assist youth to increase capacity for autonomy, and independent decision-making and problem solving
  • Assist youth to express feelings and discuss what is happening in their lives, and help to improve insight into self-awareness and discovery
  • Assist youth in overcoming dependencies, adjusting to life, and making positive changes
  • Initiate and maintain community partner relationships, including City of Yellowknife, recreational facilities, local businesses, Indigenous and other cultural communities, for the purpose of offering recreational programming to youth
  • Pre-planning duties for assigned programs and activities to include written cost/fee projections.
  • Ensure pre-approval from immediate Supervisor is obtained for expenses, and submit a post-program budgetary outcome report
  • Recreational activities include but are not limited to sports and other recreational activities, STEM and STEAM activities, attend local fitness facility, movie nights, camping trips, day trips, attending community events, workshops, arts and crafts, friendly competitions, and game nights at HomeBase
  • Create recreation schedule one month in advance and post details for youth;
  • Promote recreation programs by developing, producing, and distributing printed materials, and posting on HomeBase YK social media
  • Ensure HBYK environment is a safe space for all that attend including 2SLGBTQIPA+ and Indigneous individuals
  • Ensure cultural and spiritual beliefs of all youth are supported during recreational activities
  • Other duties as instructed by your Supervisor and/or the Executive Director
Responsibilities associated with Organizational Structure● Actively support the mission, vision and goals of HBYK● Work independently developing youth oriented culturally based programs and events● Work collaboratively with other staff within the organization to ensure youth program needs are met● Work in partnership with community agencies and organizations to foster positive community relationships to enhance support services for at risk youth who access HBYK services● Actively participate in team meetings, professional development activities, staff retreat and other HBYK activities● Other duties or responsibilities associated with programming or as assigned or requested by Associate Director or Executive Director, including but limited to shopping for supplies, decorating for events, cooking, cleaning/tidying after an eventWorking ConditionsThis is an onsite position working out of several HBYK locations and onsite at other community recreational facility locations.This position is predominantly Monday through Friday, with flexible hours to accommodate events/workshops scheduled during the evening and/or over the weekend.Mental Demands● Multicultural sensitivity is an absolute requirement of this position● Genuine compassion and empathy● Understanding of the various individual and personal circumstances of our youth not limited to deteriorating family environments, in-care, orphaned, homeless, trauma associated with historical or current abuse, mental health and/or addictions issues or justice involved● Creative problem solving, de-escalation and conflict resolution● Multitasking and time managementQualifications● High school diploma (required)● Current Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector enhancement (required)● Class 4 or 5 license with minimum of 1 year of experience post Class 5 licensing (required)● Post secondary education in the areas of Indigenous Studies, Social Work, Education (asset)
  • Life Experience equivalencies will be considered on an individual basis
  • Comfortable working with youth ages 12-24
● 1-3 years of experience working with youth (required) in a recreational capacity (asset)● Excellent understanding of the history and culture of the Indigenous people of the NWT and the diverse cultural backgrounds across the NWT● Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills● Ability to coordinate staff, and maintain a safe atmosphere under various pressures● Working understanding of Google suite (required)● Current First Aid certification (asset)Job Type: Full-timeSalary: $28.00-$35.00 per hourBenefits:

Licence/Certification:
  • Class 5 Licence + minmum 1 year of fully licensed experience (required)
