Job Description

Recruitment & Communications Coordinator – Opioid Poisoning Response Training TeamSt. John Ambulance National Office is seeking a Recruitment & Communications Coordinator to join our Opioid Poisoning Response Training Team. This is a remote, full-time contract position running through to March 31, 2023. While St. John Ambulance National Office is located in Ottawa, ON, this position is available to all individuals who are eligible to work in Canada provided that they are able to adhere to EST/EDT business hours.About St. John Ambulance CanadaSt. John Ambulance is a humanitarian organization and is a member of the international Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem (Order of St. John). This non-profit organization has operated in Canada since 1883 with a mission to improve people’s health, safety, and quality of life through training and community services. St. John Ambulance instructors provide first aid and CPR training to over 500,000 people in Canada each year, and its volunteers provide millions of hours of community service across Canada.About the Opioid Poisoning Response Training Program (OPRT)Funded by Health Canada, St John Ambulance’s OPRT program provides free opioid poisoning response training and nasal naloxone kits to communities nation-wide that are experiencing high rates of opioid poisonings but lack access to training and nasal naloxone through other channels. Program participants include First Nations, non-profit organizations, drug users’ networks, schools, businesses, and more. This program is dedicated to the reduction of stigma, the promotion of harm reduction and overall reduction of barriers in access to nasal naloxone in underserved communities.The OPRT Team has established a Train the Trainer process to instruct individuals on how to effectively teach the OPRT course both as official OPRT contract facilitators, and as partners of various community organizations. The Recruitment & Communications Specialist will oversee regular, targeted, recruitment of contract facilitators and community partners to ensure full registration numbers are achieved for the monthly Train the Trainer sessions. As part of this objective, the Recruitment & Communications Specialist will be responsible for drafting job descriptions and marking communications, screening potential OPRT contract facilitators, and collaborating with established partners.ResponsibilitiesReporting to the Project Manager, Opioid Poisoning Response Training Team – position responsibilities include:

  • Maintain the facilitator recruitment strategy which is rolled out on a regional scale.
  • Update and maintain recruiting, promotional and communications materials.
  • Screen facilitator applicants and conduct interviews with prospective facilitators.
  • Maintaining communication with partners, stakeholders, and community contacts.
  • Submitting data reports to Registrar Team in accordance with Health Canada reporting requirements
  • Participate in ongoing development and maintenance of Certified Provincial Facilitators
  • Collect and process invoices
  • Assist in the development and administration of a national OPRT Community of Practice for Certified Provincial Facilitators, supporting National Facilitation Lead
  • Develop promotional and communication materials for provincial offices and the OPRT Community of Practice
  • Maintaining communication with partners, stakeholders, and community contacts.
  • Performing other duties as assigned/necessary to ensure the success of this project.
QualificationsSuccessful applicants for this position will display the following qualifications:
  • A motivation to support your community and work with a non-profit organization.
  • A strong understanding of harm reduction principles. Experience in the harm reduction field is a strong asset.
  • Previous experience in recruitment and communication.
  • Previous experience relating to graphic design and marketing, including knowledge of Canva and Adobe InDesign.
  • Excellent organizational skills, and ability to navigate multiple demands under tight timelines and with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams & Power Point)
  • Strong time management, analytical and interpersonal skills required, along with a high degree of attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a dynamic personality able to generate and maintain professional relationships.
  • Ability to speak proficiently in French is considered an asset.
