Reporting to the Safety, Health & Environment Manager, the Training Superintendent will ensure compliance with Gahcho Kué’s Training Needs Analysis and oversee the effective delivery of all Gahcho Kué Mine’s safety, policy and legal compliance-driven educational goals and requirements. As a leader of mine training at Gahcho Kue, the Training Superintendent ensures that instruction and certification contribute to the competency-based development of De Beers employees and contractors.Key responsibilities:

  • Providing leadership to the Training departmental staff and their various functions, within the unit’s mandate;
  • Managing the Learning Management System (LMS), ensuring the delivery of accurate compliance reporting data to identified stakeholders and compliance with ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001 SHE Management Systems;
  • Maintaining the site’s Orientation Decision Matrix and inputs into the Right of Entry (ROE) process;
  • Developing and maintaining existing coursework in the LMS;
  • Ensuring the currency, across all departments, of Train the Trainer certifications for all Instructor-led courses at Gahcho Kué, including (but not limited to) First Aid, Fall Arrest, Confined Space, etc.;
  • Managing the departmental budget in accordance with the needs of the site working population and Training Needs Analysis;
  • Maintaining relationships with, and providing stewardship to, key educational bodies and associations within the Northwest Territories (NWT), including Aurora College and the NWT Mine Training Society;
  • Contributing to the success of key programs servicing both Gahcho Kué and the NWT, including the STEM Scholarship Program, the Northern Leadership and Development Program, as well as the execution of other training-related programs in accordance with Impact Benefit Agreements (IBAs);
  • Leading and coordinating Harassment and Bullying/Unconscious Bias Training, Anglo American Achiever Program (TAP) and Safety Leadership Coaching; and
  • Ensuring the Professional Development Program is tailored to mine departmental needs, and executed in accordance with budget.
This is a site-based position on a 4 days in/3 days out rotation working 10 hours per day.
  • Qualifications-Post Secondary accreditation in adult education;
  • Minimum of five years of experience working in adult education;
  • Five+ years experience in class and or field instruction and facilitation;
  • At least two years experience working within the mining industry
  • Demonstrated strengths at relationship building with a customer focused approach;
  • Demonstrated experience in project planning / project management
  • Strong computer skills, including knowledge of Learning Management Systems (LMS), specifically Absorb and Cognibox;
  • Level II WSCC Supervisor Ticket;
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certifications;
  • Understanding of ISO 14001:2015/45001 requirements with respect to training and records maintenance;
  • In depth knowledge of legislative driven training courses; and
  • Excellent planning, organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills are essential.
