Your key tasks:
  • Develop and maintain contacts with a variety of sources to ensure current knowledge of issues and events in the coverage area relevant to the objectives of the role.
  • Gather information from various sources.
  • Be interested in and knowledgeable about topics that engage young francophones and francophiles across the province.
  • Analyze facts and information gathered and draw conclusions or raise issues requiring further investigation.
  • Arrange for and conduct interviews.
  • Decide which elements should be included in an item, their order, length and sequence, as well as the method of transition from one element to another.
  • Develop shot lists and sequences that contribute to the focus and mood of the story.
  • Prepare, align, set up and operate an ENG/EFP unit and ancillary equipment, ensuring optimal audio, video and technical quality under prevailing conditions.
  • Light the subject or scene and compose program visual material using a handheld camera. Ensure that the material produced meets the technical and esthetic requirements for editing.
  • Deliver all recorded materials, including shot lists and sequences.
  • Edit recorded items on appropriate/available editing systems.
  • Prepare and write scripts, continuity and headlines.
  • Report the story, either on camera or in voiceover form.
  • Be flexible to work regularly for television, radio and/or digital platforms.
  • Drive a motor vehicle in the performance of the job.
Engage in a unique experience that will have a lasting impact on your career!In addition to possessing the qualifications below, the ideal person may also be a cross-platform reporter willing to be trained as a videojournalist!We are looking for a candidate with the following:
  • Understanding of the public broadcaster’s role and responsibilities.
  • Familiarity with in-house production tools is an asset: Dalet, MediaCentral, iNEWS, Scoop and Hindenburg.
  • Experience as a video journalist is an asset.
  • Valid driver’s license as well as a driving record that meets the minimum requirements of CBC/Radio-Canada’s insurance company.
  • Combination of education and experience equivalent to a university degree plus three years’ practical, relevant experience, or a community college diploma and five years’ practical, relevant experience in the field.
  • Excellent writing, storytelling and interviewing skills on both digital and broadcast media.
  • Ease with live reporting.
  • Bilingualism (English and French) required.
  • Knowledge of the Far North, local communities, Canadian politics and related issues is an asset.
  • Sensitivity to the territory’s cultural communities.
  • Knowledge of CBC/Radio-Canada journalistic and programming policies.
  • Ability to work with a variety of teams but also be a strong self-starter.
  • Critical mind.
  • Proven ability to work in a high-stress, tight-deadline environment.
  • Experience working on multiple stories simultaneously.
