Join us!Job SummaryThe Expert System Safety Engineering will deal with incorporating system safety principles into the design, integration, testing, operation and maintenance of railroad operational systems.The fundamental purpose of the Expert System Safety Engineering is to enable CN to ensure that safety assurance principles are incorporated into all activities through the lifecycle of a safety sensitive system. This person understands the business goals, architecture and operation of a system and the related safety implications and is able to define the processes, techniques and requirements needed to help ensure that CN systems are designed, operated and maintained with acceptable levels of safety.Main Responsibilities :-· Oversee the approach, scoping, definition, planning and delivery of the system safety engineering needs of a new system/program. Lead and coordinate project teams when necessary. Lead and direct vendors system safety activities and ensure subsystem design is in compliance with system safety program plans· Apply System Safety Engineering analysis techniques to support project needs and set requirements for projects. Ex. (Fault Trees, Hazard Analysis, Safety Cases, BowTie analysis, etc).· Use business and financial fundamentals to define strategy, approaches, processes and contribute to CN #39;s vision for safety· Interface with operational teams (both technical and in the field) and CN #39;s corporate Safety Management System activities to support daily decision making related to CN #39;s system safety needs.· Coach, train or mentor on System Safety Engineering techniques, represent CN in industry committees or professional organizations and guide CN #39;s vendors in support of CN #39;s Safety AgendaLevel of Interaction/InfluenceExternal· Speaking/participating in Industry conferences, working groups, committees, Professional organizations that include most class 1s.· Guiding multiple vendors on CN #39;s safety assurance needs· Regulators or government organizations on interpretation of policy or responses to questions.Internal· PTC/OT Architecture groups and segment architects· Procurement· Regional operational groups and corporate Safety and Sustainability groups· Testing and Lab teams· Reliability team· PTC and CN leadershipEducation/Certification/Designation· Bachelor of Engineering or better (Electrical, Mechanical or Industrial preferred)Skills/Knowledge· Detailed knowledge of Safety Engineering standards MIL and CENELEC. Specific experience with MIL-STD-882 and EN50126· Detailed knowledge of analysis techniques such as Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA), System/Subsystem Hazard Analysis (SHA) and CENELEC/MIL Standards for Risk Assessment and Safety Case definition· Knowledge of reliability techniques such as FMECA/FMEA and associated standards.· Knowledge of European and/or Canadian Safety Management System (SMS) policy, procedures and framework. As well as supporting techniques such as BowTie analysis· Knowledge of project scoping, planning and fundamental project management techniques· Knowledge of Electrical and Mechanical systems and Hardware and Software design· Knowledge or railway operations, railway suppliers and general business fundamentals.Experience· At least 10 Years experience in System Safety Engineering Techniques· Experience in Safety Management Systems and Risk Management Techniques· Experience in railroad operations, railroad suppliers or related businessesAssets· Background in Software Safety· Solid understanding of the cloud environment· Background in data analysis and data scienceWorking ConditionsPrimarily office with visits to field locations or mechanical shops as required.About CNCN is a world-class transportation leader and trade-enabler.
