Position SummaryThe ‘Laborer – ecological restoration’ will be tasked with building trails, restoring habitat, and removing invasive species. This position includes visiting indigenous food sites and working with partners to promote, sustain, record, collect data and preserve indigenous species. This person will also support the Lands staff, including but not limited to everyday tasks like filing, record keeping, report preparation, scheduling, and data entry. What you’ll do

• Work with the community to develop a trail and spiritual bathing site, remove invasive species
• Assist existing staff in administrative duties – record keeping, mapping, etc.
• Participate in training and educational opportunities as required
• Act as a guardian for the land, the water, and all that live in it or on it
• Work with partners on projects as needed
• Harvest indigenous species and preserve them
• Educate the community on how to process plants, medicines, and food
• Join the monthly Guardian Hour zoom meeting to gain insights, network, and report back

• Other duties or responsibilities as assigned by your supervisor, Director, or the Executive Director

What you bring

• First Nations, 15-30 years old, to meet FNESC Skills Link funding requirements
• Training in ecological restoration/landscaping/trail building
• Experience in ecological restoration – habitat preservation
• The ability to lift 25/50/80 pounds regularly
• The ability to respond quickly to sounds
• The ability to move safely over uneven terrain
• The ability to work in winter weather
• Ability to adhere to Oath of Confidentiality and Seabird Island Band Policies and Procedure.
• Knowledge and respect of Stó:lō culture, traditions and language is considered an asset.
• Experience working with First Nations communities is considered an asset.
• Valid BC Driver’s License, Class 5.
