Job Description

POSITION SUMMARYWorking within the Education Department, Lalme’ Iwesawtexw (Seabird Island Community School), the Receptionist is responsible for a wide variety of clerical duties in support of Lalme’ Iwesawtexw (Seabird Island Community School) which Includes communicating school related activities, greeting and screening students and parents, answering and transferring telephone calls organizing digital and paper filing systems. WHAT YOULL DO
  • As a front-line worker, present a positive and professional image of the organization to all visitors, suppliers, inquiries, and other interactions.
  • Respond to telephone, e-mail, and in-person inquiries from clients, business partners, and other parties.
  • Refer all inquiries to the appropriate individuals, divisions, or departments across the organization.
  • Take and record telephone, e-mail, or written message for staff members.
  • Type forms, letters, reports, and memos as necessary.
  • Receive various forms of paper correspondence.
  • Where necessary, assist in compiling data for various reports.
  • Provide information to staff and/or clients about special activities.
  • Ensure that the appropriate evacuation procedures are carried out in the event of an emergency.
  • Observe and report any security issues to supervisor.
  • Administer and manage outbound couriers, including priority post, packages, and other correspondence.
  • Maintain the reception in a tidy and presentable manner.
  • Other duties or responsibilities as assigned by your supervisor, Director, or the Executive Director
WHAT YOU BRING
  • High school diploma or GED, or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
  • 2 years of direct work experience in a receptionist capacity.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Strong knowledge of general office procedures.
  • Able to write simple correspondence, including memos, letters, etc.
  • Knowledge of MS 365 Office Suite; outlook, word, excel.
  • Ability to adhere to Oath of Confidentiality and Seabird Island Band Policies and Procedure.
  • Knowledge and respect of Stó:lō culture, traditions and language is considered an asset.
  • Experience working with First Nations communities is considered an asset.
  • Valid BC Driver’s License, Class 5.
