POSITION SUMMARYThe Recovery Home Support worker position will be a part of an integrated team of individuals that works closely together in a residential setting to provide crisis intervention, coping strategies, education, connections to community services, and support to individuals affected by mental illness, addictions, trauma, and crisis.The Residential Support Worker (R.S.W.) promotes recovery, stabilization, and independence by providing comprehensive support to clients. The R.S.W. supports and promotes the following: client safety, assisting with activities of daily living, and encouraging full participation in community activities included but not limited to cooking, cleaning, charting, participating in group sessions, driving, and shopping.This position is for working out of the Womens recovery home; A:yelexw Center for Hope and HealingSUCCESS PROFILEWhat does it take to be successful working at Seabird Island Check out the top traits we’re looking for and see if you have the right mix.

WHAT YOULL DO
  • Assist with providing crisis support as needed and report immediately.
  • Ability to function independently within the framework of a team.
  • Must maintain professional conduct, boundaries, and ethical standards with a commitment to the principles and values of the First Nations Communities
  • Safekeeping medication as per Section 65 of the Community Care and Assisted Living Act ASSISTED LIVING REGULATION
  • Empathetic, compassionate, and patient
  • Regularly update client records in Mustimuhw database
  • May be required to work evenings and weekends.
  • Always demonstrate maturity and reliability
  • Participate in regular team meetings.
  • Able to work under pressure.
  • Provide coaching and life skills teaching to clients within a residential setting where appropriate.
  • Assist with household supervision coverage and safety for clients.
  • Assist with client intake process as needed.
  • Plan and participate with clients in social, recreational, and vocational activities.
  • Capacity to communicate and uphold clients’ rules, duties, and regulation in a polite but assertive manner.
  • Responsible for overseeing all household duties: meal preparation, cooking, cleaning, grocery shopping, laundry, sanitizing bedrooms and washrooms, garbage disposal, etc.
  • Purchase and maintain inventory of groceries and household supplies.
  • Provide coaching and life skills teaching to clients within a residential setting where appropriate.
  • Other duties or responsibilities as assigned by your Supervisor, Manager, Director, or the ED
WHAT YOU BRINGEducation
  • Grade 12, & Social Services Diploma, or Certificate from a recognized Health Care Worker educational program, such as Health Care Support Worker Certificate, Certificate in Community Mental Health, Human Service Worker Certificate or Addictions Worker Certificate is required
  • Food safe Level 1 is required
  • Current First Aid min 8 hours and CPR level 2 with AED Certification
  • Mental Health First Aid, Naloxone, Trauma Informed training is required
Experience
  • Two (2) years’ experience working in a psychiatric setting with individuals who have complex mental health and addictions issues, or other qualifications determined to be reasonable and relevant to the level of work.
  • Assist with household supervision coverage and safety for clients
  • Assist with client intake process as needed
  • Plan and participate with clients in social, recreational, and vocational activities.
  • Work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, applicable regulations and all organizational health and safety requirements and procedures to ensure the health and safety of clients, staff/colleagues, etc.
  • Managing Hostile Interactions, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certificates considered an asset
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office 365 Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to adhere to an Oath of Confidentiality agreement, Seabird Island Band Policies and Procedures
  • Knowledge, respect, and understanding of Stó: lō culture, history, traditions, and language is considered an asset
  • Experience working with First Nations community is considered an asset
  • Valid BC Driver’s License, Class 5 & clean Driver’s Abstract
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check (Police Information Check).
