Job Description

Financial Aid ManagerstaffFull-time • Open until Oct. 03, 2022. • Starts: ASAPThe PositionReporting to the Director, Admissions & Financial Aid, the Financial Aid Manager (“FAM”) aids Redeemer students in obtaining and maximizing the funds they need to finance their postsecondary studies. The FAM is responsible for the management and operation of the Financial Aid Office, including all internal and external Financial Aid programs available to Redeemer University students such as:

  • Government student loans (Ontario Student Assistance Program [OSAP], American Title IV Aid [Federal Direct Loans], other Provincial student loans).
  • Administration and communication of institutional award funding.
  • Reporting & analysis of financial aid data and trends.
  • Data entry of financial info into Colleague (Datatel).
  • Updating of related website content.
  • Advising students & prospects re: Financial Aid resources.
  • Support and supervision of full-time Financial Aid staff.
  • Reporting to the Director, Admission through data and analytics on the effectiveness of institutional financial aid, student financial need, and changes to financial aid programming.
ResponsibilitiesManage Redeemer’s Eligibility and Engagement with OSAP
  • Manage a portfolio of $5M+ in OSAP funding.
  • Process work for individual student funding on a daily basis.
  • Responsible for adherence to the Performance Requirements & Program regulations of OSAP.
  • Serves as main point of contact for the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MAESD) and National Student Loans Service Centre (NSLSC).
Manage the Institutional Financial Aid Program
  • Process Financial Aid applications in the spring of each year for both incoming and returning Redeemer students and determine recommended bursary and scholarships recipients, consulting with appropriate departments for ranked recommendations when necessary.
  • Coordinate and facilitate scholarship interviews each spring.
  • Present all award nominations to the Academic Standards Committee (ASC) for approval, and send award notifications to all award recipients (email & letter in the mail).
  • Track award acceptances and work with the Advancement Department to thank award donors.
  • Coordinate the development of new awards by working with the Advancement Dept. and the ASC to draft award descriptions and obtain Senate approval.
Manage Institutional Eligibility and Engagement with American Student Assistance
  • Process received FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and assess each US student’s eligibility for funding.
  • Perform all necessary functions for the distribution of US Federal aid including but not limited to Direct Loans and Pell Grants.
Reporting & Analytics
  • Responsible for creating reports and statistics on a regular basis for various groups at Redeemer (Board of Governors, Enrollment & Marketing, Staff Meetings and Faculty Council).
  • Assist the External Relations and Enrolment Division by providing regular updates and metrics of the impact of Financial Aid on enrollment and analyses financial aid data and trends to assist with enrollment forecasting.
Understand and Manage the Provincial Loans Program
  • Manage each provincial government loan program and process documentation for Redeemer students in accordance to the specific provincial guidelines of that program.
Manage the On-Campus Employment Program
  • Hold responsibility for updating the On-Campus Employment application, forward candidates to various departments as needed for interviews, and communicate with various departments regarding their staffing needs to assist with job placements.
Oversight of Communication and Financial Aid Content
  • Maintain the content on Financial Aid web pages, app postings, academic calendar sections, and print materials.
  • Manage an annual communication flow to students about financial aid opportunities, including, but not limited to: costs, award descriptions, award applications, funding deadlines, government assistance, policies & procedures, application information and contact information.
Preferred Skills and Attributes
  • Five years experience in a post-secondary environment (Financial Aid setting preferred) is necessary to satisfactorily perform the tasks and duties of the job.
  • Familiarity with the academic year cycle, program deadlines and the various job tasks throughout the year is required.
  • An understanding of government regulations and guidelines that go hand-in-hand with administering OSAP, Direct loans and other out-of-province loan programs.
  • Experience with developing and reporting on data and statistics.
  • Computer skills are required, including database management and office suite knowledge.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to accurately and clearly convey information across a variety of modes: in-person, presentation, and written.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
Education, Training & Certifications
  • Baccalaureate degree – preferably in Business, Math, Finance, or a related field
  • Masters degree an asset - in business administration, Math, or a related field
  • Previous OSAP or financial aid training preferred
Other Requirements
  • Understanding of Redeemer University (mission, values, and Reformed Christian identity)
